Hi,

You need to find a vet with good knowledge of exotics rather than one who may have little experience.

Luckily we have lists of vets for you to check.

List 1.

List 2.

And even vets recomended personally by our members.

You could also ask the person you purchased from to see if he has any recomendations and the same holds true for local zoo's and pet stores.

Hope some of this helps.

Is it at all possible that perhaps this little guy was feeling stressed out? I know that some types of snakes will
puff out their jaw/throat/neck area when they feel threatened,
or stressed.

Just a thought. Hope everything turns out well for you!

The vet is a reptile Vet, he is listed on the ARAV site. I plan to see the breeder today.

I can even tell that something is wrong with his neck, and I know nothing about boas. Sounds like your vet is a dud.

He's not healthy.. Even the breeder who produced the snake said so.. I would get a second opinion.

I do not think that any one is trying to point fingers but I would not go out on a limb and try to point to a reputable breeder for the mistake. CV Extoics has been around is known for having high quality animals and has been around for some time. You DO need to get a second opinion on that animal. It is sick and I would hate to see what happens in a couple of weeks if you do not get that animal reevaluated.

UPDATE: Brought him to breeder who looked him over and opened up his mouth. There is NO sign of mucus, his mouth and throat is absolutely clear. Why his throat is distended is unclear. The breeder said that possibly it's either 1) the very earliest sign of RI or 2) a minor scratch from a prey animal. I've fed it only frozen-thawed. So the conclusion is inconclusive and watch the animal, maybe feed smaller prey for a while, and of course to remedy the cage situation.

Thank you for all your comments, both good and bad. I'll move my next thread to the boa section. The breeder also show me his parents and I guess the size isn't too bad. He is a really nice guy who took time from his day off to check out the animal, and his animals are high quality. I really like this little guy and as Starmon said maybe we were destined to be together.

Thank you so much for the update! It must be a little uneasy not knowing exactly what is happening, but at least the process of understanding is under way!
I am very glad that you've gone to CV Exotics and see that misunderstandings happen and that Scott is, indeed, a good guy!
And yes, I do believe that this snake has chosen you....
