Woohoo shed
So I woke up this morning to find lots of pieces of shed in Shinobi's tank. I wasn't expecting a perfect shed, this being his first shed with me, and I've only had him for less than a month (not to mention all the tweaking I've been doing with his enclosure). When I took him out to check how it had gone, I noticed that about the back 1/3 of his body was still wrapped in shed, so I soaked him for about 15-20 minutes in luke warm water and that helped alot in removing the remaining shed. All that is left now is a piece on the top of his head and a couple inches down his neck. I've also noticed while handling him that I can see his spurs clearly on the sides of his vent. He hasn't been sexed and up to this point I've just assumed that he's a male. Are the spurs a good indication of his sex, seeing as I can clearly see them without trying?

Re: Woohoo shed
Spurs are not a reliable way to sex a ball python. Both males and females have spurs. The only reliable way is to pop or probe, even then the results can sometimes remain a little unclear. Congrats on the shed, and a small tweek in humidity next time around should help the shedding go easier.

Yes I have heard that the spurs aren't a good way to tell what sex they are, I was just wondering because they are clearly visible just looking at him with no popping.

Re: Woohoo shed
The spurs for some females can be larger than males. I know my big female has monster spurs, but she's been sexed female.
