    Thermostat Probe in Incubator

Just curious where you put your thermostat probe inside your incubator. inside with a clutch for spot on temp adjustments? or somewhere in the middle on the outside of all clutches?

How about the Acurite? where is the unit placed, and then the outside probe?

I havwe my probe in the middle of the egg boxes and have adjusted my DBS1000 so that the therometer reads 87-88 I am not use an accurite I am using a flukers "stick digital therometer / hygrometer" they are like 29.00 each but they sit in the egg box and read spot on every time I even use them when testing a new rack.

    Looks like this .

Looks like I may go pick one of those up. My Acurite, I just realized, is only 20%-90%...so that means it displays "HI" whenever it's above 90%. I know my Humidity is probably high enough, but i want accurate results..not "HI"

do you know if Petco carries them?

    Re: Thermostat Probe in Incubator

Hate to burst anyone's perfect hygrometer bubble... but I've heard that the hygrometers that are commercially available aren't really that accurate anyway.... kind of like how one thermometer varies from another... I would quit worrying so much about what a number says and start looking at your animals or your eggs themselves, look at the enclosures and the egg boxes... take note of condensation.

That being said I use more than one thermometer, even more than two... and compare them to each other and guess what the actual temperature is. It's really likely that a ton of people that are hatching eggs out there at a couple degrees higher or lower than they think just because of their thermometer...

    Re: Thermostat Probe in Incubator

I put my prob for the thermostat In the egg box right on top of the eggs. Thats if I only have one clutch. The thermometer goes in the same place in each egg box. If I have more than one clutch I hang the probe from the Helix Down from the top of the incubator. I place in in the center of the incubator. Then I have two pc fans running to keep an even temp from top to bottom. Most of the time when I run it with the probe hanging the top Is at about 90 and the bottom is about 88.5 to 89. It has worked great for me. I do have a thermometer probe in each egg box. So I can keep track of each box.

I'd have to agree with that..... I have an ACCU-RITE thermometer that tells time and humidity. I freaked when it was setup and my eggs were reading 88 degrees and the humidity said 39%. However, I was getting pretty good condensation and the eggs looked great so I was very skeptical about it's humidity accuracy....

I have the probe for the thermostat in the middle of the incubator. Thermostat is set for 88, and it stays at 88.

Remember that the eggs will generate heat towards the end of incubation, so you're not going to get an accurate reading of what the incubator is doing.

Ed, if that thermometer is accurate - it's reading 94
and 99 from where I sit!

Look close. Ithink there is a smudge, and it actually read 84 on the Temp. Probably cooler, because he pulled the box.
