Without having to look it up, do you know if they compared just the active ingredients, or both active and inert/other?

I've heard the lice spray is the same ingredients and active ingredient solutions. But I don't have any studies or any research saying they do or do not work the same way. I'm sure the lice spray will kill the mites. But, I have no evidence to support the theory that it won't kill my python.

See what I posted above. Is it REALLY worth risking your collection to save a few bucks?

Rid was made for mammals, NOT reptiles, which react completely differently.

It baffles me that people are willing to use something that is NOT the same thing as PAM, and swear that it is, in order to save a few dollars.

"I've heard" is NOT a good start to any sentence involving the health of someone else's snakes! If you cannot take the time to look up a thread to even reference something, then please consider not saying something is exactly like something else.

Again with the "I've heard". I've heard a lot of things in life and about snake keeping. What I know is that when it comes to treatment of mites I'm not going to be worrying about $20.00. One product may well be like (not exactly the same) as the other but seriously, is it worth the risk to your snake? Is it even worth the hassle to you if the mites keep coming back? Is it worth having mites in your collection when they are a known vector for disease? Think about it and think about advice given with the words "I've heard" in it.

That's exactly what I was saying. Read the post. I don't know that the lice spray will or will not hurt my python. It's not worth the risk. I know that PAM is tested and approved for the treatment of reptile mites. It's not worth risking my snake's life over $20. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Wow, sorry to offend. If you don't want to use it, don't. I'm not holding a gun to anybody's head here.

It appears that there are no more mites left on or around the 2 snakes that I treated last week, but time will tell if they are completely eradicated. Here is the link:

I too have read something like this in the VPI book, the only problem with the creatures they were talking about was they were very hard to keep alive for any amount of time, and it took several "rounds" if you will. I don't know how those bugs did with the eggs, because it would seem to me that the bugs would only eat the moving adults, and not the eggs after they had been laid. Leaving the door open for a reinfestation.

But, I think it's something worth mentioning like you had I have no idea if they were the same insect or not.

I will let you know how it goes. According to the website, they eat everything available, including the eggs.

Not offended, just correcting mis-information that it's the same thing - many people state that it is, when in fact, it isn't. Just providing the facts so each keeper can make an informed and educated decision.
