    Re: URGENT: sick(er) gravid female...

With the amount of reptiles we keep at our rescue, we use a vet who specializes is herps and NOT a 24 hour vet service. Personally, I would ONLY see a herp vet in this situation because if it turns out to be IBD, the snake will have to be put down. I would never take a chance on the life of my snake by putting it in the hands of some 24 hour vet who does not have much herp experience. Most small animal vets are not herp vets and do the best they can, but when it comes to the care of my reptiles, having the BEST care is the most important and I would prefer a specialist. I'm sure they do as well.

Did you just compare a snake to a kid? Its just a pet, calm down.

Can you clarify this sentence please? The rescue boa is in QT but what "male" was she in contact with? The male BP that subsequently was put in to breed with the female BP that is now sick or another male boa or BP?

I think they are saying the bp that is sick now has never been in contact with anything other than the male she was bred to. I think they are just mentioning the rescue boa because someone asked about it.

Sorry for the jumbled sentence. I do have a boa but it is is quarentine, not even in the same room. She's been in quarentine since day 1.

The only other snake to have contact was my male ball who I have had since 2000 with no problems at all. He seems fine.

But the male ball has only had contact with the gravid female, right? Not the quarantined boa?

    Re: URGENT: sick(er) gravid female...

It sounds like IBD. I agree with you asking fellow herpers of the problem. The herp vets in my area (the closest one is almost an hour drive and has HORRIBLE hours) hardly know their you-know-whats from a hole in the ground. I'd ask someone who's been working with reptiles for years over a vet that may half-assedly examine one or two a year. But keeping her in quarintine and upping her temp was a baby-step in the right direction. I would take her to the vet for definitive care and suggest to the vet that you suspect IBD. But, you're waiting on the bloodwork already so I don't have to tell you. Good luck!

    Why?

Well best of luck and I hope it all works out for you in the end.

Not sure if this helps much but I think I remember someone posting awhile back how someone stopped by their house... handled their snake and that snake along with the others came down with IBD. Turns out the person who came over had brought their snake to the vet that same day bc it had IBD... Is it possible that you handled your new boa... didnt wash ur hands or what not... then went on to the ball room and messed with your female and/or male?
