Feeding Seasons
I am trying to bulk up my snake after not eating often for about 6 months prolly due in part to my first set up. He has been eating every 5-7 days for the past 3 months and he is really starting to gain weight. He was 211g the other night before he at so im gonna wait a couple days then weight him and see. Just wondering if there are different times of the year when a ball will eat more. I am hoping to keep him eating and get him to gain weight as fast and as safely as possible.
Thanks
Matt

Re: Feeding Seasons
Overfeeding can cause fasts as well. A 277 gram animal was fasting for six months? It's very unusually for such a young animal to fast at all, and when they do - it's generally environmental.
I don't overfeed my crew, and I let them grow at the rate that they are supposed to grow, and I don't have a feeding season, mine eat year round.
Check our BP Care Sheet, it has a list of reasons why your snake may not be eating. Figure out what's wrong, and fix it, and your snake should eat year round for you (if you don't overfeed in your desire to get it to gain weight quickly).

Re: Feeding Seasons
I understand why he wasn't and have fixed the location and set up of his enclosure and he has been eating great for about the past 2 months. I was just wondering if there was anytime of the year when it may naturally want more food.

Re: Feeding Seasons
I would not worry to much about it. Just keep feeding proper meals every 5 to 7 days and he will be up to a good weight in no time. Generally the weight of males are not really a concern unless it is a health issue or you are trying to breed him.

Re: Feeding Seasons
All of those reasons maybe a possibilty but your asking is there a certain time of year they may go off feed. Yes in the winter months if temps drop then there metabolism slows down and they will not feed as often. Yes snakes in the wild hibernate they may not feed at all drying these months. I don't know but this might be a possibility
