    How frequently and how long to you handle your BP??

    I bought mine 3 weeks ago so I really don't handle him much at all of course so as a new owner of a BP, I was wondering;
    How frequently and how long does everyone here handle their BP(s)?

    I'm pretty sure it depends on the snakes temperment. My BP seems to be curious and doesn;t seem to mind being handled, even though it's for a short time.

    I'd like to know what everyone here does! Thanks

    I handle mine pretty often. Probably 3 days out of the week. Pretty much anytime except feeding day, and the two days following. I don't mess with them during a shed, either.

    Re: How frequently and how long to you handle your BP??

    i handle mine a few days a week. i have one thats only a few months old that dosnt like to be held and he always hisses at me and poops on me so i try to hold him untill he stops doing all that, kind of a way to break the habbit. ive been told that if they hiss at you to ball up to pick them up any way and they will learn there behavior will not stop me. my other snake, shes an 04 and ive had her sence 05, ill hold her for hours some times. some times ill take her with me to my friends house and just bring a couple of hand warmers. when i hold her shell either wrap around my wrist and stay there, or shell crawl all over me. most other people she just balls up in a ball for though. start out holding it for 10 minutes at a time a couple times a day and then 15, 20, 30 and so on. some people will only hold them for 30 minutes at a time but i say watch the snake and let it decide. when they want to be put down, they will hint at it.

    A couple times a week - about 15 minutes each time.

    Re: How frequently and how long to you handle your BP??

    I've had mine for just over a month. Started holding it 30 minutes a day (took 15 mins just waiting for him to open up) but then bumped that up to an hour a day. Once I started holding it an hour a day I noticed a HUGE difference in his temperment very quickly. He's more calm now and has learned to trust me, he's not so jumpy with movement around him, he tolerates me walking around with him, and now it doesn't take him 15 minutes to open up, he opens right away and starts exploring.

    Should mention that I don't handle him for 2-3 days after feeding, but other than that, I hold him every day.

    i handle mine 10 minutes every day except the feeding day and 2 days after and when he is in shed.he usually comes out of his hide between 830 and 11 at night because thats usually when i take him out.but i started with 5 minutes sessions and move up to longer periods every couple months to get him used to it.

    I handle my Bp only 3-4 times at month if necessary(usually for encolsure cleaning,substrate changing...).
    Probably I've never handle for more than 10 minutes.

    Re: How frequently and how long to you handle your BP??

    Depends on which one of our ball pythons. They all get handled during enclosure cleaning, but if in shed or just ate it is just long enough to put them in another temporary enclosure and back again. Otherwise I personally have my favorite, Seth, that I handle 10 to 15 minutes at a time every other day unless he is in shed, just ate, and probably I will avoid it when breeding.
