    Anyone use Reflectix?

Anyone use it? I'm wanting to wrap my animal plastics cages with it.

I know I can do the backs sides and tops. But I thought I heard someone using some on the inside. Anywho...

Anyone use it and have any tips?

I use it all the time...but I am curious why your cage would need to be wrapped in it...are you room temps that low that the UTH or lamp won't hold the temps? The risk is the tank can't dissipate heat at all if wrapped up so the temps could climb really quickly.

    Re: Anyone use Reflectix?

Yeah. I've got my oil filled keeping everything perfect. But I'm ditching it. So I got some of the 80 watt radiant heat panels from Rich.

Hot side temps are perfect. Cold side temps are perfect. Humidity spot on. Everythings great. Except for the ambient (without the heater). And the heater has to go.

And even with the radiant heat panel going, the ambients stay at around 78 to 79.

I've got the probe in the cage and its set at 85. And it still won't bump the temps up.

So I've gotta insulate it with this stuff. I'm not worried about the temps rising too high as the heat panels probe will notice the rise and shut down.

    Re: Anyone use Reflectix?

reflectix rocks my world. I use it for everything and it's an excellent insulator. Mostly i put it under my flexwatt and UTHs so that the heat goes the right direction. I also use it to insulate the snake room in the winter to aid the ambients.

The best way to keep it down is staples or foil tape. For non-permanent applications, i use the foil tape. The tape is also good for covering the seams between pieces. I just wish it weren't so ugly lol.

    good luck!

    Re: Anyone use Reflectix?

Well I just got the backs of the cages done. What a pain in the butt!!!

Cutting, measuring, cutting, taping, taping, taping, taping. Haha

I also sandwiched some in between the cages. I'm done for the night. I need to do the bottom of the bottom enclosure still.

What else can I do? I'm still thinking of how to do the sides and make it look good.

But what about the inside of the cage? Like the ceiling of it? Take my RHP out. And the light. Tape it all up there. Then reinstall the light and RHP.

    Any thoughts?

Thanks for the replies guys. Its keepin me motivated. Hopefully this stuff helps a little.

    Re: Anyone use Reflectix?

    Hi,

I certainly wouldn't tape it inside.

Can't you put it on the outside of the top? Tape is a bad idea for certain and I'm not convinced on the reflectix either inside with the animal.

I might just be being ultra-cautious though.
