    Happy BP Eating 2nd Meal!

Well this is my second feeding for Layla. She will only eat the F/T adult mice from Petco (where I purchased her and what they fed her) She takes only about 10 secs before she strikes and coils. Its amazing!!! I'm really getting to understand these snakes.

    My Baby Layla!

    In her feeding box.

She enjoyed her meal very much and seemed to be looking for more but heck no that is plenty of food for her for now.

Her is a random picture I took of her the day before. Something spooked her into ball mode. So I have declared her my "Little Ball Of Joy"

    Hope You Like!

Re: Happy BP Eating 2nd Meal!

I also bought my BP from Petco, and have been having all kinds of trouble feeding. I have been trying F/T fuzzy mice, but I guess they could possibly be too small. They look right to me though. Any tips for me on F/T feeding?

    P.S.
I love the pattern on her, she looks great!

She would not eat the fuzzy's either. So i just get the adult and she chomps it down. I just thaw them out good in their little bags and then take the mouse out after its thawed enough and put it on the open part of the screen for about 15 mins under the lamp (not too close to cook it but enough to keep it warm) and I then take Layla outside of her enclosure to a box. (The guy told me thats what they do at Petco) and then I dangle it a bit in front of her and she strikes in under a minute. How long have you had her?

I've had "it" (not sure on sex, but I like to think he is a he) for about a month now. The first two attempts I was using a small rubbermade, and offering a pinkie. Now I have been trying to feed in the tank with a fuzzy and a plate (to protect from eating substrate). I heat the same way, place it under the lamp the same, and then dangle it in front of him. He just ignores it and takes the screen being off as on opportunity to "explore new areas". I think an adult would be to big, he is pretty small still and I don't really think I should offer something that is bigger around than he is.

True. The common rule is feed them a mouse that is as thick as them. I'm very new to any type of snake. I guess I'm fortunate as of now. *knock on wood* Just keep going through the feeding forums which I sure you already have. I hope it all works though. KEEP ME POSTED!!!

Re: Happy BP Eating 2nd Meal!

I'm pretty new also, this is my first snake and I've only had him for a month. I've done a TON of reading about all aspects of snake keeping, but I'm still a rookie.

Today is 5 days since the last feeding attempt, so after work I will be trying to once again feed him the fuzzy. I'm pretty sure all of my previous attempts have happened at around 1-2am, so I'm going to try and move it up to around 9-9:30pm. Maybe that will help, at this point I'll pretty much try anything!

I'll post tomorrow to let everyone know if it was successful or not.

Keep in mind that almost every newly hatched ball python is big enough to take an adult mouse for it's first feeding. I've found with my guys that if the prey is too small, they will ignore it completely. If you think an adult is too big, then go down to a hopper. You can get small adults though, and I bet, unless your snake is very small, he can easily eat one.

Awesome. Yeah that's exactly when I feed her. Once again it goes with when they fed her at Petco. I'm only roughly 2 weeks with her now.

    GOOD LUCK!

I've heard the term "hopper" a lot, but I've never actually known what it meant. Can someone inform the newb on the lingo?
