    Re: A New "Substrate!"

I'm a bit worried on how I will keep humidty down in the summer too.

I have some desert inverts that will get diseases from too much humidity.

    You have any tricks?
    Besides sand

Heat lamps dry out the air inside the enclosures like nobody's business. And a fan in the room circulating the air will help as well. As well as making sure that water sources are small (as little surface area as you can get away with) and kept as far from the heat source as possible. You can also buy a de-humidifier for the room.

A dehumidifier in the room would help. You just need to empty the resovoir as it fills.

Where I live it's just the opposite, yesterday was 12% humidity.

Heat lamps or Ceramic heat emmiters will do the job for sure! Great advice has been given, dehumidifiers will also do the trick, if you have to, try a combination of both

And keep in mind that if there is a local newspaper in town, you can usually go to their printing office and get the ends of the newspaper rolls for free. We did this for awhile while using newspaper. The paper is happy to give it out as they then don't have to pay to recycle it and you get a nice roll of plain newsprint paper. You'll still have to cut it to size but at least it's free...and free is always good!
