    long time, still no shed!!!

ok...so i'm getting a little concerned. I got Fluffy on 12/17/07 and she got settled in her new digs rather quickly but she still hasn't shed for me yet. She's about 26" long and just about 300g. Has eaten each week and her most recent meal was a decent sized 46g rat pup a week ago. Temps @ belly level: 92F on the hot side, 79F on the cool side. Humidity is @ 55% - 60%.

I noticed about 4 days ago that her eyes got all cloudy and even the vet said (2 wks ago) that she was starting to get a lil "blue" tint to her. So I upped her humidity to about 65%. Her eyes look like they've cleared up so I don't know what she's doing so I let the humidity fall a lil bit to 60%. Is she gonna shed any time soon??? I know that "she'll shed when she's ready to shed" but 2 1/2 months seems like a long time.

    any help/advice/comments would be great.

p.s. i have a tub in a freshly built rack that's all ready for her to go into but i didn't want to stress her or anything while she was in "shed mode". when do u think i should let her move in?

Bump the humidity back up! The eyes go blue and then they clear and then the snake goes into the shedding process and sheds a few days later! I just had another snake shed and have another in blue; I bump the humidity to 72% and it seems to work well for my snakes! Can't wait to see pictures of your beauty after the shed!
EDIT> As for the new rack, I would suggest that you wait until she has completed the shed!

Yes their eyes will clear before shed. Its usually 24-48hrs after their eyes clear up. Its usually pretty easy to know when theyre in shed bc they wont come out of their hides. If mine aren't out and about at night time I usually dont mess with them. Sounds like you should have a shed any day now. Bumping the humidity will help but its not always needed... One of my girls just shed the other day and her humidity was 53%... shed in 1 piece. Bumping it up helps but is not something you "need" to do... It just gives you more assurance that theyll shed in 1 piece.

Re: long time, still no shed!!!

That stage when they suddenly look "normal" again always gets a new keeper. They appear to have gone out of shed when it's really just the stage right before the physical shedding will occur. Glad to hear it went well. I know the first shed cycle I ever went through I was like "huh, where's the shed????" LOL

It's a good habit to get into to check the snake over after the shed to make sure both eyecaps, the tail tip and any full encircling shed has come off cleanly.

Here's a couple of excellent threads that are handy to keep in your favorites list.
