My new monitor

I just picked him/her up at a show here locally over the weekend. Its a yellow spot timor monitor. This is my first monitor anybody have any advice or a good care sheet?

well what is your set up like? do you have your 140 degree basking spot? do you have enough humidity? What are you planning on feeding it? and you may want to change your substrate to something diggable. Timors are more arboreal than some, but they'll still dig if given a chance. Also provide many very tight places to hide all over the cage. Timors are notoriously shy, and often give their owners 'empty cage syndrome' by never coming out.

Hi its a juvenile that i have in a 40 gallon tank right now and the basking spot is at 130. It has plenty of hiding space and the humidity is about 60%. Its feeding on large crickets and giant mealworms that have been dusted. What substrate do you suggest, from what ive read people have recommenend the cypress mulch.

umm if you live in a place weather permitting it is possible for you to build an outdoor enclouser for him what yo uwould have to do is make a pen what ever size you want then when you are about to put the wire or fence down dig about 4-5 feet into the ground and fill it with either cement or the extention of the cage just so he won't dig out also you will have to put a gate in so you can get in/ out also i wouldn't know if this would be good for your moniter if it is nonturnal bt hey this is only my .02 so have fun with the moniter. also as the moniter gets older you can feed it mice

I've had one of these monitors before... very shy and hated to be handled. Probably not the best choice for a first monitor for most people, but I hope you enjoy him!

As stated earlier, they will burrow - and can be kept on clean, slightly moist soil or soil mixtures.
