I was told that nhandu Vulpinus are burrowers but for some reason my male/female decided to this in the picture below even though its burrow is tha thing you see to its left...does anyone know why its not using its burrow?
Some burrowing species do not always burrow, and some non-burrowing species sometimes make a burrow. Its normal for your tarantula to make a web outside of its hide, but it could decide to take up residence in it one day when you least expect it.
Could it be that the substrate is too compressed for the tarantula to excavate and dig in? I had the same problem with my H. lividum (Cobalt Blue) before.. It wouldn't burrow despite the caves and starter burrows I created. I later realized that I had compressed the substrate too much that the tarantula found it too hard to dig.
Or.. maybe your tarantula simply doesn't find it convenient to burrow and is much more comfortable out in the open Ditto on what edie said.
