it's rather amusing that your citation in no way backed up the myth you're trying to claim as fact. It just said you need to up cage size as the animal grows.

    MYTH.

copy right from the web page(adult size and their care recommendations lead to stunted, undersized animals)

The size of the cage does not mean anything. The snake will out-grow its cage and keep growing.

He is right. This is a myth.

    Re: Stunted Growth?

I'd say that it was a case of mis-reading the quote. When talking about stunted animals, Melissa was referring to "pet stores and people who have listened to pet stores as to how to care for and feed their reptiles are not a good source of information as pet stores understate adult size and their care recommendations lead to stunted, undersized animals."

The key here is ADULT SIZE and separately, Care Recommendations. Two different things. Animals will grow to their genetically programmed size IF they are fed appropriately. Cage size has nothing to do with it.

LOL yeah, snakes aren't fish. They grow depending on how well they're fed as babies, then if that's continued as adults.

When I was a kid I caught a baby catfish and put it in a ten gallon tank. It stayed no more than 6 inches long, lol.

Actually, it's not good for fish either. It does stunt their growth to some extent, but once they have grown to be too big for the tank, they will start getting kinks in their backs a lot of the time, and generally be unhealthy and stressed. I had to talk a lot of people out of buying those little bowls for their goldfish when I worked at a pet store, and a lot of them didn't believe me when I told them ALL the goldfish we sold could hit 12 inches.

So far as snakes go...bull. Buy a baby retic, put it in a 10 gallon, and see what happens.
