Craigslist Jerk
So, I had contacted a guy on craigslist about buying his Irian Jaya Carpet. He wanted $100 for snake and cage, which I figured was a pretty good deal. I saw pics of the snake, he looked perfectly healthy (if in need of a shed) so we set up a time to meet at his house.
What I did not know was that he didn't actually live at the house the snake was kept at (??) so he had to go out there and wait for my husband.
My husband got lost in the apartments trying to find his place, and was running about 15 minutes late, at which point the guy called me all angry and stated that he was going home because my husband hadn't shown up at the appointed time. Then the guy sends me this this morning.
"I really have a lot going on the rest of the week until Sunday. If you would like to pay the full asking price of $150, I can make time today after 5:00 but I will not wait around any later than 6:00. If this time frame does not work for you, then Sunday will be the earliest time to make this happen. Are you and your husband serious about buying the snake I make time for you to come and see it? My time is valuable as is yours and I don't appreciate having to wait around for an hour and a half with no phone call to tell me what the deal is."
Alright, no problem (keep in mind that he dropped the price on his own in his initial reply to me, I didn't haggle) so I sent him this back.
"I can understand being a little irritated after last night. However my husband did not have a cell phone to call me and so I had no way of knowing that a call to you was neccesary. As far as I knew he was there picking the snake up, I only found out otherwise when you called. It turns out that he found the apartment complex with no problem, however, he was not aware of how large the place was, and he spent half an hour trying to get into the apartments (it being a gated community) and trying to find your apartment. I know, I know, excuses are like you-know-whats, everybody has one. Regardless, by the time he found it you had already left. I can assure you we are serious about buying the snake. My husband says he can meet you at the apartment at 5:00 (since he knows exactly where the apartment is now) if you would be willing to do it for the agreed upon $100, so there would be no waiting around on your part. If this isn't possible, then we would be more than happy to do this on Sunday at the time of your choosing. Just let us know, and again I am sorry for your inconvenience."
Well, after waiting around all day for a reply, and being unable to get him to answer his phone, this is what he sent me about half an hour ago.
"Snake is being sold to another buyer at the full $150 asking price from an ad that I listed at a local pet shop."
That's it. No apology for breaking our deal, no explanation of why he decided to sell it to someone else, I guess in this day and age an extra 50 bucks is more important than common courtesy. I guess he was just pissy at us and decided to be a jerk. Am I wrong to be annoyed at this? It just struck me as really rude. I guess that's what I should expect from going on craigslist instead of a reputable breeder.
More importantly, who the heck keeps their snake in an empty apartment? I guess he goes and checks on it on the weekends? Way to be a responsible owner, dude.
