    Pissy McPissy - Hognose

I have a Western Hognose that puts on probably the most funny PO'd display I've ever seen from a snake. It's only started happening recently (the last 3 or so days) for some odd reason.

He obviously thinks he is much more of a badass than he truly is. I open the cage top and the first thing he does is flare out his neck and starts hissing away while doing some kind of cobra stance, periscoping his neck / body vertically. Loud little hisses for such a small snake. I then put my hand in his tub and he completely freaks out... feign strikes in every direction... I'm not sure what he thinks he's going to do, lol.

Anyway today I tried to feed him and he MUSKED me... Ugh disgusting. I don't think any of the "goo" got on me (since I can't even find it) but the smell was nothing less than putrid.

Anyone else's little guy have such a big attitude?

    0.1 Brazilian Rainbow Boa
1.0 Hypo Columbian Red Tail Boa

Yeah my little hoggie can have an attitude too. No musking, but the rest of the display is the same. He may have a shed coming on. Either way, he's one cute hog

He is too cute. His "I'm bad" display makes me die of laughter.

    Re: Pissy McPissy - Hognose

I love it when my Hognose hisses at me (I'm used to it now). It's pretty funny to have this little 9-inch snake trying to scare me . Anyway, I didn't know Hoggers could musk (after all, they are NOT part of the common colubrids family). Place the food in his enclosure (or wherever you feed him) and leave the room. He probably should finish it off after 30 minutes. That's the technique I use with my Hogger when he doesn't eat right away.

    My snakes:
0.1 Kenyan Sand Boa ~Nephthys~ (aka "Linky")

    In a better place:
    1.0 Pastel Western Hognose ~Charon~ 10/3/07-4/24/09

If you need/want to know anything about Hognose snakes, just ask me.
