Howq often have you been bitten??

5 times in 4 years (nearing 5 now, wow!) of owning snakes...3 times by my first girl--bites throughout the stages of her growth, lol, luckily even her bite when she was 2000g wasn't so bad...all three were mistaken identity feeding strikes--she's an aggressive feeder.

The other two were from my newer baby girl, the second sweetest of the lot (after the first one, lol!) and all of them were defensive after she got loose and I was chasing her down, lol. She should be named houdini; I have weights on her tub AND clasps, and she still wiggles out

Anywho...XD yay for pansy BP bites.

I've had a few minor tags here and there, but the worst bite was a 5 ft albino Burmese. He grabbed me around my middle and ring finger and proceeded to coil around my whole hand. It hurt.

Runners up were a prehensile-tailed skink and a fire skink.

From a 10 ft Burmese once and it HURT, dang thing had been missing for 2 months in the petstore I worked at and I was the one to find it. Hungry, right by the rat bins. It latched onto my hand, wrapped around my arm and would not let go!

With 3 BP's of varrying ages and a little over a year of keeping them, I have yet to be bitten. My spider girl likes to be a little hissy when I first get her out though.

I have yet to hear any hissing. Is it very noticable? Other than the two strikes through the glass at me during the first few days, our bp has not shown any aggression what so ever.

I've been bitten by snakes 3 times that I can remember. Once by a wild snake (black rat I think) that I caught to show my kids up close then released. Once by a baby king snake in a pet store. Once by our bp when she was in shed and I think I may have startled her by reaching in to her tank too quickly.

None hurt enough to count. The wild snake did open really wide and leave a big, but superficial, mark on my arm. Neat little circle of pinpricks.

Our bp did also bite my bf one time. We feed f/t and do the zombie mouse dance. One time the mouse slipped out of the tongs, and somehow in trying to pick up the mouse with the tongs, got his hand close to the snake.

To the OP: it sounds like a feeding response to me. Even if you had washed your hands, the scent was still in the room. I think a bite and hold is almost always a feeding response, but sometimes it might just be that their teeth get stuck because they do have backwards pointing teeth.

I think it's pretty noticable. It basically sounds like air escaping from a tire (though not quite that loud of volume). Not every BP will hiss all of the time. My spider female is the only one of mine that I've heard hiss so far, but that's just because she thinks that she's 'miss priss'.

been keeping for a year and a half now, never been bit or struck at, my bp is a sweetheart, not head shy, really friendly, almost like a puppy! worse bite i have ever gotten is by my 2 year old son, evil nasty bite!!!

I got bit once by a ribbon snake. He had eaten something like 5 fish the previous evening, and one was left the next day. I reached in to get it, and the little bastage hit me. I laughed and said, "Fine. Keep it."
