Using a plant as a hide

I feel like such a newbie mama. LOL

Our bp is a Oct 07. Feeding well every 5 days. Warm side between 90 and 94, cool 78-82, humidity 50-60%. He alternates between the warm side and cool side regularly and doesn't seem to mind that the hides aren't identical. My concern is that he's now using a hanging plant as a hide during the day, frequently. He will climb the vines on the left hand side (pic below) and ball up for hours in them with his head peeking out. I'm just worried that he's stressed even though to my newbie eyes he doesn't seem to be. Is this a totally wierd thing for him to do, use the plant as a hide?? He also balls up sometimes under the plants on the right hand side and he wraps the branch all the time in the evenings and just hangs there.

That would be a sign for you to get him a different hide, something he can be under and be safe..

Or, just let him be, watch him to see if he does eventually choose the hides.

Not a big issue, IMO. You just seem to have a quirky snake.

He still uses the hides, both of them, everyday. He just starting with the plants too about a week ago.

You might want to try putting something into the hides to make them a little tighter fit for him - It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like at least the hide out in front might be too big. Ball up some newspaper and make it a little snugger inside.

There is wadded papertowel blocking the far end so he can only get in from the water dish side. The one in the back is pretty tight already.

My adult bp who I have had for 5 yrs did this his last yr in his AP cage ( he is now in a rack ) he had the same hides on both sides and had always had the plastic plant behind his cool hide for the 3 yrs he was in the cage. Then one day he just started using the plant as a hide he did this for about 3-4 mos then went back to using his hide.
Nothing in the cage had changed prior to him using the plant and nothing changed while using the plant. His cage was the exact same for the enite 3 yrs he was in it.
I figured he just got bored and wanted a change of pace.
Just keep an eye on yours. Long as he is eating and temps/humidity are constant I wouldn't be to concerned.
Try and keep your cool side at least 80. 78 is a tad cool.
