Talking Craig's List JCP Pickup (Minor DUW)

We decided to take out Zeelow last night. All the war injuries were sustained by my husband over the course of 3 - 5 minutes. Then I got to hold him, wound free, for 10 minutes. What an honor.

Here are a few pics in honor of our new jungle carpet python's debut at home.

    Little fella is long...

When else can you see me in hot pink, pajama pants?

Here is a link to a close-up of his beautiful, blue tongue, too. Scroll to the bottom of page 2.

Yes, but "muddy." Oh, well. We still ADORE him. My husband is so happy and has even started calling Zeelow "his snake." He even named him for goodness sake. Before I brought Zeelow home, he was compared to the snow blower the husband gets for his wife. I was the husband and Francois was the wife in that metaphor.

LOVE the new avatar. Gosh, your avatar changes daily!

PS, Pat did you notice the thing that Zeelow and I have in common?

Not a bad looking jungle! Depending on the bloodline, the muddiness might clear up a bit or not.
What I mean is that the high yellow lines of jungles will get more colorful as they get older until a certain age. Other lines muddy up pretty early. Either way, a great score!

Re: Craig's List JCP Pickup (Minor DUW)

    Thanks, Mike and Adam.

Now here are my questions. I thought the "breed standard" was a white belly. Is that true? His belly is light yellow and black. And he has muddy scales within his black areas (a lot in some areas) and tiny black dots within his yellow. Whattup wit dat? Not that I'm being picky, just trying to figure it all out and know what might change and what might not.

If you need pics to see what I mean, let me know.

UPDATE: I got him out today using a garden glove - he didn't even strike at me! I took the glove off once he was in my hands. I held him for a long time. He was fine until my son pet him. Wow, this guy might be a one-woman snake. I hope for my husband's sake that he's not.

When I went to put him back in - he wanted to stay out! And that was after 15 minutes or so of handling.

However, I heard a whistling noise when he breathed. PLEASE tell me that he might have stuck shed in his nose. I am about to drive the 1 1/2 back to Baltimore and strangle those Craig's list people!!!

Let me tell you. We've been through shots and oral antibiotics with our very sweet Ball Python. I don't see either the vet bill or giving shots to this feisty little fella as fun! Oh yeah, or THAT 1 1/2 drive!!!

Ahem, ::clearing throat::, let's stay positive. He LOVES to be out!

Re: Craig's List JCP Pickup (Minor DUW)

Well first off, a white belly is not typical of jungles or carpets other than some morphs. "His belly is light yellow and black" is the typical of jungles.
The muddy scales in his black is typical of what we call "tipping". Tipping usually is yellow and it could very well become yellow but is muddy because all the yellow has not come in yet.
The black specks in the yellow is the melanin coming in. Some lines of jungles are known for the melanin encroaching into the yellow earlier on than in other lines.

The wheezing you hear is typical of carpets. I believe it to be the way that their trachea is designed.
