What would you do?
We are faced with a decision. Aurora (the Australian shepard mix we have been baby sitting for almost a month) has gotten out of hand. We can't keep her anymore. She is tearing up the apartment, digging in what little yard I have, ect. She has attempted to bite me (not sure if it was play or serious) on numerous occasions. Taking her out to the bathroom is a big ordeal as we have to use a leash and she constantly tugs on the leash. I have bad wrists so the constant tugging, yanking, running around, ect is making my wrists worse.
In all honesty, we just can't keep her in anymore. I've gotten the go ahead from my cousin to find her a new home since there is no way he can come and get her. (He's in Arizona) We have called the SPCA and finally got an answer concerning getting an appointment to hopefully have her taken in there. We won't get an appointment till the 8th and even then, they might not take her.
So we are faced with a bit of a dilemma. Do we keep her till the 8th and wait for the appointment only to have a 50% chance of having her taken in or do we find another shelter and take her there tomorrow?
What would you do. Take into consideration that this dog makes life a living hell. I have not been able to keep my kitchen clean in over two weeks. She pees on everything. She is also not vaccinated and so poses a risk to our other animals (mainly our ferret who has not been vaccinated yet)

As hard as it may seem, I think a shelter (preferrably a no kill) would be in your best interest. I'm sure, even though you're having a terrible time with this dog, that you'd like to see her in a good home that can handle her. But, while she's making your life
difficult, you have to think of you, your family and animals first.
I know I would. Good luck with your decision.

Re: What would you do?
As I'm preparing my sugar glider's dinner she breaks down the door to her kennel. Thankfully I got the kitten into the nearest bathroom and fixed the kennel. I'll be looking for another no-kill shelter on the internet soon (actually now) and hopefully we'll find one we think will be able to care for her until she gets a new home. It would be great to find one and take her tomorrow.
She's a great dog, but she's part Australian Shepard. She needs room to run, not sit in a kennel all day. I have a very small backyard. We are talking, maybe enough room for a small terrier to run around in. Aurora is the kind of dog that needs to run all day then have a good meal at the end of the day and go to sleep. I can't give her that and its not fair to her. I plan to donate all of her items to the shelter. This includes the kennel, toys, treats, collar, leash, food, dog shampoo, ect.

Be careful what no-kill shelter you pick, some portray themselves as a no-kill shelter when they are actually a kill shelter (atleast around here they do) .

Re: What would you do?
My cousin suddenly decided to move out to Arizona and left Aurora in my mother's care. Like I am now, my mother got to the point where she couldn't handle her and I offered to take her in. The original babysitting period was 6 months. We talked to my cousin and he gave the go ahead to find her a new home since he absolutely cannot take her out to Arizona for at least another 6 months.

Not vaccinated.. uh oh. I would be losing sleep over heartworm.. I have seen personally (through a friend who does rescuing) what heartworm does to a dog. I do think that it;s a great thing that your cousin is not giving you a hard time about keeping the dog; he does not deserve it, if it is not being cared for and protected against disease.
If it were me, the dog would go asap. I am very territorial about our place myself, and could not stand the thought of an untrained dog running amok.

Re: What would you do?
We've already had to deal with a case of roundworm. Actually she's due for her final pill tonight. She has not been seen by a vet at all other than me finding a roundworm in her poo and taking her to the vet the next day! I've spent so much money on this dog in the past month and I can't keep doing it. Its taking money that I can't afford to be spending as that money is supposed to be going towards paying my Snake Card off.....I mean my credit card.
So yea, the ferret is going to the vet ASAP to get checked for any diseases or parasites she may have caught from the dog. Then she is getting all her vaccinations.
On top of not getting Aurora vaccinated, he didn't get her a check up or get her spayed. She's six months old now and will be going through her first heat soon. I definatly want her out by then.
