    Moss or Cypress Substrate

So i'm going today to get a tank and some misc. stuff my son will need for his crestie. My question is I have a bag of cypress mulch and a bag of sphagnum moss left over from when my BP's where in tanks. Could I use one of those as a substrate for his crestie? If so which would be best? I've read a few care sheets and some say they are good, some say they are bad Also i'm looking into one of those exo-terra tanks, how are those for holding heat and humidity?

    Re: Moss or Cypress Substrate

the exo terra tanks are great. they don't really need to hold heat so much for cresteds but they will if you add a light source, etc. they hold humidity very well but still are ventillated enough through the screen lid.

i would only recommend sphagnum moss for substrate in a humid hide or lay box. if you plan on feeding insects at all the cypress isn't the best idea since the gecko could ingest and/or choke on it. if you want to use a more natural looking substrate (as opposed to paper towels) i would recommend a bed-a-beast (coconot coir) type substrate.
