    Rack heating

I'm going to be building a rack for some hatchling Ball Python's I will be getting in the future, and I was wondering which is the best source of heat for tupperwear containers or whatever people use. I've heard that heat pads underneath the containers will burn your house down.

Some info would be great, thanks.

Hi. Flexwatt is probably going to be your best option.

My advice would be to visit Reptile Basics and have Rich wire up your flexwatt if you've never done it before.

Here's a link to the Heating section. You will also need a Thermostat if you don't want your house to burn down

    Good luck

Also...I moved this thread to the Caging section of our web site

im no bp breeder or anything. not much into breeding. i might later but it will be with boas and burms mostly. but from what ive read, hatchling racks do pretty well with back heat.? i know i use 11in flex watt on my cb-70's. thats belly heat of course though.

Snakes have blood, feal fear, breathe air, eat food, drink water, reproduce, and they happen to live in a body which is difficult for the average person to understand. One fears what one doesn't understand. ignorance creates fear. The fear of snakes is not cultivated…we are not born with it…children love snakes, just as naturally as they love dogs and cats. don’t be afraid of a reptile’s tongue…the only animal that can hurt you with its tongue is the human being.

    Re: Rack heating

Thanks for the reply, would a heating pad work if i cut out a peice of the wood so it wasn't touching it? Or would that still burn my house down? Cause I don't know where to get any of that flexwatt stuff in Calgary, because I don't have a car.

I don't think my local reptile store has it either and I hate ordering stuff on the internet, but if it's the only answer, I can do it.

and sorry about that, I'm new to the site haha.

Whatever heat source you decide to use you MUST wire it to a thermostat to control the temp. This will help keep your house from burning down. Cutting a space for the pad would be ideal as then the tubs wouldn't rub on it directly...but you can also just cover the pad/flexwatt which will serve the same purpose.

    Hope this helps
    Sean
