    Harbor Seal in NJ (DUW)

My dad went surf fishing in Central NJ this morning and what do you know.

This lil guy came up to shore and was walking around right near him.

I cannot believe he seen this. I was so jealous.

It looks like a little guy... maybe he got lost? I've never heard of seals in NJ, that isn't very common is it? But still ... that's WAYYYY cool! I'm jealous too.

Re: Harbor Seal in NJ (DUW)

    Just found this:

Wild seals conjure up images of northern or even Arctic climates. But few people know that more than a hundred harbor seals call New Jersey home during the winter months, coming ashore into isolated estuaries and even upstream into a few rivers.

New Jersey is near the southern limits of the range for harbor seals on the East Coast. However, these seals are frequent visitors offshore in winter and even have been reported as far south as the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia and off the coast of North Carolina.

AWWWE! What a nice looking guy!
I live in Saint John and I think we have them also up here.... you can see them stick there little heads out of the water at Reversing Falls. We call them Sea Dogs though! I guess they would be really called a Harbour Sea though!
    anyway, NICE shots!
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

I'm sure it was near Tom's River.

My sister lives there and works for the NJEPA so I'm sure thats were my dad usually goes.
