Well actually it sort of just freaked-out right around the same time I got my first snake. I came home from work one day and the the TV was going full blast and my poor dog Cirrus was running around like crazy. At first I thought that he may have fallen asleep on the remote or something. But as soon as I turned it off, it came back on. And the volume kept increasing to full blast as I fought back with the remote as if fighting with a light saber. But it kept winning the volume battle and soon began to change channels and turn on and off constantly all the while at full volume. So like some scene from a horror movie I unpluged the damn beast and stuffed it into my daughters wagon, covered it with a blanket and hid it under a pile of dirty laundry, fully expecting it to crawl into bed with me later that night. (Bad TV)!!!
Well a reasonable person would probably have come to the conclusion that the remote thermometer/hydrometer I just installed in my new snakes cage was somehow sending these crazy signals to my TV. But no, not me. I took this as a sign from above that I was watching way too much tv (which I was). It's been a couple of months now and I'm still taking it one day at a time.
I actually started to read!!! Did you know that they will give just anyone a library card? And the nice lady at front desk went out of her way to explain that they never give their records to the government. Well that was a huge relief to me because I live in a small town and I wouldn't want our government to know that I was getting my information about snakes from fifty year old publications. I'm serious here!!! They only had two books about snakes and the most current one, "Snakes as Pets", never even mentions BP's or any other snake we would consider pets today. They list most snakes native to the U.S. and talk about which ones make better pets. They tell the reader how to catch a wild snake and make a nice home for it in a pickle jar or cigar box!!! Honestly, where the hell am I going to find a cigar box?
I guess it's too early to tell what sort of effect this "no tv" thing is having on me but I find it interesting that I have since filled my house with glass boxes full of pretty colors, lights, and entertainment in the form of mice, rats, fish, and snakes. And no commercials!!!!
