It's silly because if you were satisfied with the transaction you wouldn't hesitate to do it again...............there are plenty of great online breeders to buy from, but do as you will!

If i was going to buy online i would not hesitate to buy from him again. I just decided that at this time i dont need to buy online.
for one, i dont need anymore snakes lol. another reason is that the reason i bought online was because i thought there was no other option. after attending the expo near me i found out there are lots of breeders around me with good prices and i would be able to see the animal before i buy it. i am also tired of threads like this. I contacted joe before i even knew about the BOI or what people thought of him, its a hassle to do background checks and do buisness over the phone or email. i like the fact that i can go to the persons place, talk to them face to face and see what animals they are producing. that does not sound to uncommon here, i have seen many threads were people have stopped by 8ball pythons or NERD and picked up their animals. now i know that most people would not hessitate to order from them online because it seems to me that you guys know each other. thats just my thought proccess right now.

    Re: Powerhouse Reptiles

Every transaction is different so its hard to judge a breeder off that... Seems you either have a good buy or a bad one. Sure you could have had a good buy with him and it worked out with no problems... I mean lets be honest people there really isnt much involved in a snake transaction... Well in my mind there isnt... You send the initial email of interest asking ??'s... most people request more pics... you SHOULD get all the information you asked and the pics you requested... after that its up to the buyer... they like they buy... Breeder packs em up nice and ships em out... There really shouldnt EVER be any problems... I do understand that from time to time unexpected things happen and things dont run as planned... thats allowed a couple times here n there... price of doing business... With that said when you business is know to have these things pop up all the time... you know its the business and not something unexpected...

Your reasons for buying locally are obv good reasons just remember sometimes that snake you want isnt available from a local breeder. I dont know about how you or anyone else buy but i decide ok i want this morph... i have x amount of dollars to spend... and i just plaster the market with intrest emails looking for pics... I want the best looking snake for my $$... Yes your local breeder may have a spider or whatever morph you want but are you 150% sure about the way it looks? In the end my lil schpeil is that online transactions can be just as smooth as face to face... and should be... maybe we should have a section on the forum with a list of QUALITY breeders... Like you have to earn so many votes to make the list or something?? Like Djansen said why do we have to search for a good breeder and do back round checks?? I think theres ways around that we just need to put our heads together ....

I want a 50 dollar spider. As long as it's not sick or dying.

    Re: Powerhouse Reptiles

I'm just a new kid on the block but I have done enough researching online to know that when a new morph comes along the original breeder is the only one to have them. This enables the original breeder to sell the first specimens at a very high price as an investment to other breeders who will breed these snakes and sell them for a high price also. As more people own and breed this morph they become more common and the price gradually drops as they become more available. This process takes a few years. Mr Capone evidently sold rare morphs at a high price to breeders as an investment and after getting their money flooded the retail market with those same morphs in order to bankrupt the other breeders in order to eliminate his competition and enable him to corner the market. Many people lost their a$$es because of this. To come on a snake forum and say that he is an OK guy is kind of like going on a B'nai Brith forum and saying that Hitler wasn't such a bad dude.

Did you just compare Hitler...who killed millions of innocent humans...to an ******* who undercut your BP market?

It's a hassle that I'm willing to go through to make sure I do all the research necessary to ensure that the snake I pick is the right one. I've heard it said many times over "shop the breeder, not just the snake" IMO it's somewhat the lazy man's approach. Don't get me wrong a breeder list is a great start...but again in MO it's just the start.

    Re: Powerhouse Reptiles

Researching the person you're going to do business with is just a part of life. It's not just buying snakes or other critters over the Internet. ANYtime you're going to either a.) fork over a significant amount of money for a product or service OR b.) involve a living creature in the transaction....you need to be willing and able to make sure the person you're doing business with is on the up-and-up. That's the world we live in and there's no getting around it.

Sometimes, we're fortunate enough to "know someone that knows someone" and we can get around that task of researching on our own....but if you're unwilling to confirm the legitimacy of the person you're doing business with, in my opinion, you have no one to blame but yourself if you get screwed.

Of course, even with research, there are no guarantees....because lots of "business" people (has nothing to do with snakes or animals in particular) will spend some time building up a respectable reputation...only to run off with everyone's money in the end. BUT...you greatly lessen your own chances of getting ripped off if you do your research first...because for MOST rip-off artists, there IS a trail of evidence that you can find.

No. I did not. I gave an analogy to show how well giving support to Mr Capone would fly in the BP community.
