question on pastel to normal breeding
as you all prolly know i just picked up a male pastel from the hamburg pa show great lil guy his eyes are starting to blue then i will feed him. but i know when a pastel is bred to a normal you get pastels and normals. thats not my question. my question i don't know how to word right so bear with me.
since i bought a lower end pastel is it going to only create lower end pastels or is it random to how colorful the snake is? I also know that the normal that i use has to do with the pattern and color to.
reason i asked is because, i know with pieds its random to how much white and color there is.
well thank you in advance.
and sorry if the question is hard to understand

Re: question on pastel to normal breeding
You can try to breed it with very light colored females, reduced patterns and such, but there is no guarantees that the pastel babies will be any better than the parent.
Just try to breed selectively for the qualities you want to enhance, and it should be all good.

Re: question on pastel to normal breeding
You know you don't have to use normals
You could always go with a 100% het hypo female, and create 50% possible het hypos and pastel possible het hypos. Pastel Ghosts are gorgeous.
You could get a cinnamon female and go for pewters, granite female and go for pastel granites, get a yellowbelly female and try for pastel yellowbellies, then work your way on up to pastel ivories(HOT!).
You have alot of options than just putting him with a normal female. I think het hypo females are running between $300-$400 depending on what type of hypo. Just some things to think about.

Re: question on pastel to normal breeding
There is some variation in the babies you get. But I would definately say that bred to "average" females, most of the offspring will be pretty much in line with the male you are using...

Re: question on pastel to normal breeding
ok so its not like the pieds where its random. well i got a nice female who keeps getting lighter after each shed. and had very nice blushing and flames. the pastel has lots of flames not so much blushing and alot of pink and oranges on his sides very wicked looking.
i ultimately want to end up with a super pastel. so another part of my question is say i have a clutch of some pastels and i breed them back to the daddy pastel i know ill get a super pastel well i dont know because of the odds. but all pastels no matter the spectrum it is in will create supers.
like if i took the dad and bred it back to one of its babies that was a pastel i would get a super prolly not high quality? i am not really breeding for the money or anything like that im breeding for the love of the snake and when my collection gets to big i will give some snakes to friends an family that i know will take absolute care of them. and sell some along the way. and i want to work with other morphs this is just my first time and i will hopefullly be able to breed next season my female is just over 650 grams now and eats like a champ. should if im doing my calculations correct should be at least 1500 by breeding season if not more and we just have to go with how big my pastel gets if he is up to size then i have an 8 year old normal male i just picked up. i have an incubator and everything it just still in the box and ready to be unpacked. next season i keep looking at it wanting to use it and see how well it maintains temps and humidity but i havent had a chance this is my first day i've been off work in 2 weeks so i hope tomorrow when im off ill be able to mess around with it.

Re: question on pastel to normal breeding
yea i know but right now i dont have the funds for anything else i had my normal for 2 years now and i deff want to breed her that was my original plan and then get a morph which i did i got a morph that was in my price range and i am happy with it then if i get some more money up maybe ill get a female year old morph mojo maybe. i was looking at the hypos and i love them just wanted something visual first then work with the hets since i also have a 100% het albino from tim bailey.
