    Did she shed or not?

    Hi all,

Our first snake ever, Xena has had the milky eyes. She cleared up sometime in the last 48 hours. Now she is shiny and bright. I picked a tiny tiny bit of dried loose skin from the very tip of her tail a few minutes ago. There is no shed skin in her tank. She also has not pooped since we got her and it's been almost a month (9/21/07). There is a chance that her previous bedding had some poop in it and missed it when I switched to the green mats.

My main question is did she shed and eat it as I have read they sometimes do or is she about to shed in the next few days?

Side question: In peoples sigs they list what they have for pets. They have odd numbers in front of the animal type. WHAT is that number?

    Thanks, Milo

Re: Did she shed or not?

    Milo,

None of my ball pythons eat their shed. It's usually 48 hours after they go back to clear that they will shed.

Have you checked out this thread yet?
    http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=28794

    The numbers represent:

    Male.Female or sometimes you'll see Male.Female.Undetermined

So 1.5 would be 1 male, 5 females.

1.5.2 would be 1 male, 5 females, 2 undetermined sex

I would expect a shed tonight. They do not eat their sheds. Some lizards do, but no snakes to my knowledge.

"A watched snake will not shed" or so Justin said.

Thanks for the replies. She is now doing the rub and we are getting pictures. She is really active for daytime. She also keeps awning to loosen up the head skin. This is really cool!

Yawning not awning. I didn't think eating the shed was normal, but I'm sure I read on here somewhere that it does happen. Like I said I'm new or I should say we are new as my GF is on here too, Mara Morai.

Re: Did she shed or not?

Lots of lizards eat their shed, but not so much for snakes. However there is a thread on here about someone that just caught their corn snake eating its shed. Apparently king snakes have also been known to do this.

Here is the thread about it:

Re: Did she shed or not?

Yeah, it was the corn thread that put eating shed in my mind. Xena is having a bad shed. I upped the humidity. I did give her a soak today, it helped a bit. She is now up in her "tree" but more skin is coming off here and there.
