    What do you think?

Hey gang I need an opinion. I found a lady that has a crestie she needs to rehome. (typical - bought for kid, kid doesn't care anymore, mom taking care of it, yada yada yada). She is asking for a $100 rehoming fee (sure she will take less) for the crestie and the tank. I have wanted a crestie and like rescuing kids when I can but not sure.

So what do you think? Is he/she (sex unknown) anything special?

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: What do you think?

100 bucks for it all? Thats not bad I dont think, and your helping a crestie find a good home at the same time...

I dont really know much about cresties so I can't tell you if it's worth 100 dollars but with all that stuff included I think it's worth it...

I'd do it if I had the room and money! Why not!

Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

I'm sure that tank alone is worth about $100, and I don't know about whether the Crestie's a special morph or anything...but I do think that it's cute as a button If I were anywhere near there, I'd be bringing him home with me, for sure.

    Re: What do you think?

if i had the chance to get that crested and the tank for $100 i'd do it in a heartbeat. those tanks are really nice and cost more than $100. it could use a little help in the accessory department (vines, plants, etc.) but that will be easy and relatively inexpensive. the crested itself looks good--nice color (great orange and interesting greenish hue), good crest structure and looks healthy from what i can tell in the photo. it looks like it may have floppy tail but that's fairly common and relatively minor.

the geckos is a harlequin morph. i'd have to see photos of the pre-anal region to check for pores to say anything for sure on the sex but it doesn't appear to have any hemi-penal bulge right now.

    I am getting him

I spoke to the current owner and we have come to an agreement so I will be getting him in the middle of next week. So to be prepared I am starting all my research on what I need to get. She has CGD (a little bit - no idea of the brand, so I assume I need to get some more - what should I get?), and the viv.

As you can see the viv is sparce so I need some suggestions (pics even better) on how I should improve it. He will be seen so a nice looking setup would be ideal.

She says he isn't handled much so he is nippy (said he went after her and bit her), and "tail whips"? Assume this is due to lack of interaction since her son wants nothing to do with him. input?

Thanks everyone for all your help.

    Re: I am getting him

you want to get the t-rex or repashy crested gecko diet: http://www.pangeareptile.com/products.htm#superfoods. you can also sometimes find this in a bottle with a purple cap at petsmart/petco.

add some vines/branches/leaved plants (fake is fine) to the enclosure. they love to climb so adding horizontal climbing areas is good. i use bamboo or pvc in my enclosures, wrapped with fake vinery:

you should be able to calm him and work him through his nippiness/tail waving. they will wave their tails back and forth as a warning when they are stressed. i've seen geckos do this to each other to tell the other not to get too close or to leave them alone. i wouldn't worry about getting bitten--they can't really inflict any damage. it sounds like he mostly just needs to be handled enough to learn that you aren't a predator/you aren't going to hurt him. short handling sessions during which you offer cgd should cure this fairly quickly.

    Re: What do you think?

Thanks Emily for all the advise.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to mlededee again.
On the food how much do I need to feed? Does it last long or do you go through it quickly (just wondering if I need 4lbs or 1/2lbs ?). Do I still need to feed crickets/insects or is this diet enough?

I will pick up some of those closet rods holders and bamboo(assume thats what those white things are with the bamboo)

Does it make a difference fake or live plants (by this I mean even though live is more work is it better for them in some way)?

Thanks again...I have a week till he comes home so want to make sure I am prepared for the little guy.
