    She thought I was food...

Anyone else ever experienced this? I got bit HARD tonight. I've been struck before, but never like this. Before anyone asks, I hadn't handled any of THEIR food prior, but had just eaten dinner (sphagetti, no meat, and garlic bread).

So, the circumstances... I was cleaning tubs. I cleaned one that had just had a shed and poop, put her away, and went to the next shelf in the rack. I opened the tub, and IMMEDIATELY she was stalking me. Literally came out of the tub and was intensely focused on my hands. So, I managed to get her out so I could clean up the rest of HER shed and change her paper and water. Set her aside, she sat where I put her like a good girl should. I put her back in her tub, and like a dumb person was curious about her "interest" in my hands.. I reached in to move her water bowl, and she struck. Got me right between the thumb and first finger. COMPLETE constriction, my whole hand and wrist was wrapped with 4 feet of snake. If you've never experienced a predatory response in this way, you have NO IDEA how strong these animals are. My hand is STILL numb 20 minutes later.

Anyways, after the fact I thought I should've taken some pics of her on my hand before I unwrapped her and unclamped her jaws. It took almost 10 minutes to get her off by myself.

Anyways, no real damage. I suppose I did the right thing and didn't panic. I've got very clear lines where her teeth penetrated, and there was some intense bleeding from the puncture wounds, but a little peroxide and I'm not much worse for the wear.

I have an adult female who is like this AT ALL TIMES
my cousin and friend steve were over today and I let them handle 2 of my boys and steve was like hey whats in this drawer? and I let him investigate and she was sitting in striking position hissing. he jumped back so fast haha I was laughing my a** off. usually once you pick her up she calms down immediately so I grabbed her and was standing next to my cousin mike and she was flicking her tongue and behaving then out of nowhere she starts huffing and strikes at his arm hahahaha I love her attitude. but yeah idk how your snake usually behaves so it may be a completely different situation...

Anyway you could reach back in and see if she would do it again. So we can get some pics. Sorry i had to. I know what its like i have one female thats like that all the time. A real B!@#h. Yah sometimes they dont want to come off. I keep a spray bottle hanging from each rack. With some water in it. With the ones that have done the same to me. I spray them in the face and most of the time that gets them to loosen up and let go. Well hope everything is ok.

Re: She thought I was food...

well, feeding day is tomorrow so if she's hungry she's gonna get fed... I'm not going to mess with her any more tonight, but if she does it again I'll take pics first.

Seriously, my hand is still kinda numb. I think she bruised the muscles in the area she bit, because it feels like I've been using one of those grip exercisers for 10 hours strait...

I was just messing with you about the pics. Most of them time when they get me its sore for a few days. But nothing that bad. Try the water bottle thing next time. Might get her off you sooner. Just think what the mouse or rat feels. Thats gotta suck.

She's an adult, it's the day before feeding and she sure gave you enough indications that she was in hunting mode. Putting your hand back in her space was asking to get bite so she did what snakes do, nothing surprising in that to me. Sorry you got bit, but really what else did you expect to happen?
