    Public Service Message

If you have an infection, please PLEASE go to the doctor and KEEP going back if it gets ANY worse!

A friend of mine, far to young, had what he thought was an infected bug bite last Tuesday.
Last night he was rushed to the hospital, airlifted from there to Mass General in Boston, and died from his infection early this morning.

    RIP Pete

I have done it myself many times.

I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with you though.. too many people put off going to the doctor for something that they think is a "mundane" thing. Once again, sorry for the loss of your friend.

    Re: Public Service Message

I have an ingrown toenail that has been getting infected over the past two weeks. Yesterday, it hurt sooo badly, I couldn't walk and my mother told me to come straight home. I told my job I had to go home to have my infection looked at by my mother.

She says the infection is really deep into the toe and she had to lance the infected areas open to release some of the blood and infection. It was PAINFUL. She gave me a demerall (sp) painkiller and I went right to sleep. Slept for 10 hours. I can walk on the toe again but with slight pain. I'm going to the doctor on Saturday when my insurance kicks in to have a doctor look at it.

But yea, thats what happens when you wait two weeks with an infection. My mom said if I hadn't told her, the infection would have gone into my foot.

    Re: Public Service Message

I also had a really infected ingrown toenail, but I could not take the pain anymore so I did my own surgery, I cut the ingrown parts out, doctors tried before but they said my toenail was to deep to go in and get it out, which would lead to surgery. Doctors were surprised I got it out and I am now on antibiotics just to clean everything out. Anyways thats not my whole story, this is something that happened back in October. While I was in gym class, foolin' around with some buddies, I was running and tripped, fell right on my knee! my knee cap shattered and shot up my thigh. Turns out I ripped my PCL right off my bone. For people who don't know what and where you PCL is, feel your knee cap, move your hand past the knee cap, and you will feel a bump right below it, that is called a tibia tubrical (spelling) That lump or knob holds your PCL tendon, and thats what broke off. After going into shock and being rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, everything was seeming to go well while in recovery, then I go some bad news, doctor told me I can never play football again. ( I was captain of the football team, I played like 3 positions! center, long snapper and defensive tackle!) I thought my life was ruined! No more football! But thats not all.. 2 weeks after my surgery I had a checkup, turns out the screw they drilled into my knee didn't work, so now theres another surgery! This surgery DEFINITELY sucked! Worst pain I was ever in my whole entire life! So after 3 months of laying in a hospital bed, and doing minor therapy, my pain kept getting worse! But one night, a week before Christmas, I fell down 9 stairs, and I landed myself in the hospital for a week, with pnmoina (spelling), blood clot and a collapsed lung. After leaving the hospital Christmas eve, I came home and had the chance to celebrate Christmas (crippled still) with my family. Around March I was crutch free! By June 1st I noticed a lump on my bad knee, didn't really think much of it.. a week went by, I got a little worried, showed my doctor, he didn't seem to care about it. Another week went by... Blood and pus started coming out of it. That made me, my family, and my doctor worried about it. So the next day, guess what happens? More surgery! YAY! Haha not. So in my 3rd surgery they took out the 2 screws and wire out of my knee, they cut out the infection and I've been fine ever since! Sorry for my LONG story, if you actually read this whole thing, I give you props. This is a true story, I have pictures of my knee. And if you didn't know, I'm only 16. This isn't supposed to happen to someone when they are 16. My whole year was wasted my living in a hospital bed! lol not fun. Anyways I thank you for reading. If you don't believe me ask for some pics, I'll be happy to show you some!
