Re: appropriate weight gain?
You know I've never tracked weights on any of my preggo female rats. Basically when they get to the point where I mutter "holy ****, that rat gets any bigger it's gonna explode!!!" then I know they are about big enough and ready to deliver.

Re: appropriate weight gain?
Besides which Ash, you and I have both had kids. Can you imagine anyone saying how heavy a 9 month gone female human gets....we'd waddle over and kill em...or at least sit on them while we ate chocolate and whined about our swollen ankles!!! I hate to embarrass my lady rats LOL.

I never understood why they weighed you first and THEN took your blood pressure. Even when I wasn't pregnant, I didn't appreciate it.

Cuz they are sick puppies with freaky senses of humor! Same reason they invented stirrups and backless examining gowns....buncha wierdos!
Personally I always enjoyed the labor room nurses who asked how "we" were doing.
"Well hon....we are just freakin jim dandy...one of "us" is laying here in a considerable amount of PAIN...and one of "us" better get her butt back out that door!"

When they are ready to deliver they look like wobbling pears, its hilarious but you can tell they are miserable, i feel so bad though... But i make sure and give them more treats then usuall when its all over.
