He's got mites..
Well Spartan ate the other day and i noticed a tiny bug on him wile h was constricting his prey, i left it for now, i got him in his cage and i just changed his water and I noticed about 2 little bugs crawling on him. I told my mom who is in the states right now to pick up some mite off, if she can't find any i might have to order online, but in the mean time what should I do?

Soak your snake in a large bowl of warm [NOT HOT] water for 20 mins or longer You may have to hold it in there the whole time. Dunk its head under a few times [be careful] for 5-8 seconds [mites liketo stay near the head / eyes / under head. The soaking should drowned most of the mites. After you do that dry him off but don't put him back in his cage. Your going to want to clean out the entire thing. I use mite off and it works pretty well.
1 Normal ball python
8 mice And at least seven 1 day old mice.
3 hedgehogs
2 rats one tan and one black hooded female
2 dogs
&& 2 cats

Maybe i should wait 2 days until I get mite off? I will give him a nice bath tomorrow. Any thing else? Should I be worried? I don't want to lose my little guy.. Sorry just really protective of him, he's like the greatest thing that has happened to me

Re: He's got mites..
Hi,
Can you get prevent-a-mite in Canada?
That seems to be the most recomended treatment for cages with mite infestations. It is however very important to follow the instructions exactly.
From what I've heard it is the only treatment that kills mites at all stages of their lifecycle.
A lot of commercial treatments kill adult mites but do not affect eggs so 30 days later the problem comes back.
I would recomend doing a search around the forums to check for opinions on treatment.

No.... Mite-Off will just kill the adult bugs. It can't do anything about any eggs that were laid and will hatch eventually. P-A-M will kill the eggs and any neophytes (or whatever they are called before reaching the adult size you can actually see).
Mite-Off and similar products are fine for immediate relief for the snake...but P-A-M is best for quick, final eradication of the pests.

I've been researching PAM and I read that someones snake died from it! Prevent a Mite KILLED his snake, I don't think I should risk it =(

ANYthing can kill your snake if you don't do it right. They can drown while soaking in a closed container....they can be killed by a rat left unattended in their cage....they can be burned by uncontrolled heating elements....they can get sick from overly cold temps.....they can get horrible scale rot from wet, unclean caging..........etc etc etc.... One must be careful...but it's not overly risky.

Re: He's got mites..
Call this number tomorrow morning after 10am (905) 274-8018, and ask to speak with Grant. Tell him your situation, that you have a snake with mites and need a can of Provent-a-Mite ASAP , and are unable to procure transportation to his location (unless of course your Dad or someone would now be willing to drive you there, in which case you need to ask him for directions) Provided you have a way of getting him the money other than in person, he will have that shipped out to you before the week is out.
You NEED to get this Mitch
