A Horrible Find

First off I just wanted to say Iam so sorry if this is in the wrong forum or sub-forum. I really wasn't sure where this would go so I ended up here.

Well I was searching on Myspace for I don't even know what. When I stumbled upon a girl who like snakes and I started to wonder if she was in the guild. I scanned through her pics and came across some with her snakes in it.

As with everyone I LOVE pictures. But I found something that looked like two boas and a ball python being what looked like housed in the same cage.

I wrote her a message and asked if they all where indeed housed together. (I didn't want to automatically assume just in case I was seeing things)

I just got a message from her back and she said

"Yep.
nice blood python, by the way, i'm lookin at some of those or a retic next."

Don't worry everyone I replied, and with that told her about snakes being housed together in general...I even offered to help her with any step to step How Toos on ALL cage requirements.

I have to say though...It bothers me so much when people already have snakes and they aren't even being taken care of properly. And to be searching the market possibly to get another.

I just really wanted to share this all with you....it just bothered me..needed to talk about it..I will be happy to let you know what all happens next

I know exactly how you feel...except you at least got a receptive audience.

A friend of mine, who frequents the Petsmart I worked at and was very knowledgeable about the G.Pigs they owned, found out I loved snakes during a conv and invited me over to see her corn snakes. I thought 'Hey awesome, I'll get to see how someone else sets up their tanks'... when I got there, it was apparent she knew everything about G.Pigs and nothing about snakes.

There were three corns, of different ages (1 month, @4 month and an 8 month) all in the same tank! The tank was maybe a 40gal, very tall, with shredded paper as substrate (varied, probably from shredded documents), fish decor for hides (stuck snakes waiting to happen), and a red bulb as the only heat source. Needless to say I was rather horrified and started right away to try and educate her on their care.
I stress TRY because every time I started explaining something (politely of course, since she wasn't purposefully harming the snakes, she really thought they were best like that), she talked over me about something they did, or why she got them (she really likes snakes, but is afraid of bigger species), and I couldn't get a word in. It was as if she was trying to say 'I'm not listening to anyone's suggestions cause this is how they are and this is how they'll stay'. Finally, I had to give up lest I start chewing her out. At least two of the snakes were friendly and all three looked healthy...for now. I'm still kind of upset about that.

I too have a "snake lover" on myspace and she too keeps her snakes together. I've informed her they probably are stressed out by living together. Of course she came back with a attitude and told me she knows how to keep her snakes. *rolls eyes* Sadly I don't believe she does since many of her snakes set up's are way off and I find it to be pretty bad that people just give her snakes because "she's a model". Sadly I know a lot of guys drool over this girl because "she's soooo hot". Only if they could seen the pictures of how she keeps her snakes.

Sadly I've learned that not everyone is going to listen to advice. Some will, some will not. Which is sad, but you can only try to help.

I wish I could magically go into peoples houses and fix things up....sadly I haven't gotten my powers yet

Argentra - you are a beast for dealing with that....I think after a while I would have lost my cool....It kills me to see an animal in help but not being able to do anything....But in some cases helping is not enough....I just wish people would gain the responsibility need and step up and to care for any animal...furry or not

God I wish people would listen...I mean it is for the good of the snake(s)

I haven't gotten a reply back I just hope she will take my advice...only time will tell I guess
