    never in a million years..

did i think i would be spending my saturday bathing rats lmao!!!

remy, emmie & miss big ears each got an individual bath and nails clipped. we had cleaned out their enclosure and when i went to put them away they had pooped all over the exercise ball (where we keep them during cleaning time) so i knew i had read somewhere as long as i use baby soap i could give them a bath.. while bathing them their little nails were scratching the heck out of me so while i was drying them i grabbed the nail clippers and snipped each of their nails, paying close attention to their quik i was able to get them pretty short. they were really good for it i had not one bleeder! i just talked to them the whole time petting between feet, their back ones were rediculously long, im sure (concidering they came from a pet store) they had never had their nails clipped so im glad i got to be the first one.. at least i know it was a positive experience and not scarey as hell.

advisory: i worked for a local small animal vet for 5+ years & pet store for 2, i do have experience clipping small animals, birds, cats and dogs nails.

darren (who was scared to bathe them) actually did miss big ears bath, im so proud! he was impressed at my knowledge and ability.. and i must admit sometimes i surprise myself. i thought at least one of them wouldve bitten me

also, i totally was in awe and disbelief, when i put miss big ears away (the one whos been weaving and acting funny) she walked over and peed in her litter box, i screamed with excitment and called darren over to tell him!!!!!!!!!!!

I bathe every new rat before it's introduced to any of my colony rats. I like to make sure they aren't carrying any little buggie buddies and also get rid of their old colony/pet store stink. Wet rats look well....funny! LOL
