First feeding.. ripped off!
So I went and picked up a hopper yesterday.. got home, set up a place for the hopper incase she didn't take it, then waited until the evening to try to feed her.
I decided to feed her in her place (for now) so she'd be more comfortable. As usual, she was under the newspaper.. I didn't to leave her alone with the mouse so I took the wood out and lifted the newspaper so she'd see the mouse quicker. I didn't have ALL night to sit in my basement and watch. The mouse was walking all over her; I tried to pick her up and set her on top of the paper. With her on top, I could put the wood back and close up and give her some time to eat and walk away for a minute if I had to. When I picked her up, she balled up tighter, that's when I noticed her tail wrapped around the Temp probe cord. Come on. As I worked on getting her off slowly she moved around and struck! Obviously scared the hell out of me. I couldn't, or didn't want to, believe she struck at me again- for the 2nd time in the first 4 days. So I jumped back and the paper lowered on top of her. I lifted the paper back up..
She got him! and I missed it!! It feels like I waited forever to get to see her eat for the first time and she was so hungry as soon as she noticed there was a mouse in there, she didn't waste anytime.
Oh well, all's well that ends well, I guess. She ate after 4 days under my care and I'm happy with that. Now I'm looking forward to trying to handle her in a couple 2, 3 days...and seeing if she doesn't want to bite me. If I'm being honest.. I'm a little nervous.

LOL Mike you'll get to see lots of feedings. Messing with her however when she's got prey scent nearby or on you from handling that prey is going to get you bit at some point.

LOL! I know how you feel man. For my snakes first 4 feedings all i got to see was the strike. After that he pulled the mouse back into his hide and I wasnt able to see a thing. You have years of feeding ahead of you but you should try and make your snake as comfy as possible. Until he/she is settled in I wouldnt mess with the snake. The important thing is that your snake is eating and as a new BP owner that should be much more exciting to you than having back stage passes for the feeding
