Re: When did Petsmart start selling snakes?

Every petsmart I have been in has had snakes for sale, but mostly BP's, thought it was the norm for them, guess not.

Re: When did Petsmart start selling snakes?

From what I know having worked there myself, the stores nationwide have been 'introducing' snakes slowly, one store at a time, if the petcare departments have shown good numbers in sales, low death rates in their animals, and high ratings in customer feedback. Of course, the info the *&%&^$% company bases things on is so outdated its practically from the stoneage! I'm not saying ALL Petsmarts are bad, there are a few where the people hired actually know what they are doing, but that's usually luck of the draw. People who know animals well also don't stay there long (like me) cause they can't stand the policies those morons keep forcing. Usually, the managers there, and even the associates, don't know Squat about animal housing...especially of reptiles and amphibians. I can't count the number of times I had to rearrange reptile enclosures to separate species that NEVER should have been together...

    Anyway, that's my on it.

the petsmarts around here sell frozen mice. Infact, on all the reptile tanks they have signs saying they highly recommend the feeding of f/t mice to reptiles. Its just too much of a mess for me to deal with, so I go with live.

Re: When did Petsmart start selling snakes?

Yep, the one I worked at started selling frozen mice (in three convenient sizes! ) just before I left. I think they're starting to do that even if the store doesn't have snakes. Boy I hope my old store doesn't sell snakes...those guys haven't got a CLUE!

Re: When did Petsmart start selling snakes?

I also used to work at petsmart. My store was one of the first to start carrying them. It started probably two years ago. The first thing we got were tiny corn snakes and a king. Each snake got its own tank and they were NOT shipped all together, they were each shipped in an individual clear cup, the way most breeders ship. The kings were always way aggressive, I hated working with them because this was before i knew snakes. But because they were aggressive at least the staff had the common sense to put them by themselves. We sold frozen mice long before we got the snakes in and the stores that sell them, SHOULD have frozen mice. They're in the fish department though so you might not have noticed them. Each snake had a feeding chart and the employees were supposed to feed once a week after store hours so the squeemish public didnt have to see. Unfortunately, I was the only one willing to work with them, and DEFINITELY the only one willing to feed them, so the snakes had to be fed during my shift which was opening. I feel bad because it probably threw off their whole internal clock, but at least they got fed. It's like everyone says, it's luck of the draw with staff. sometimes they're good, and sometimes they're not.

I was in Petco today just to look around; had my parrot with me and naturally no one could even make a close guess at what it was. But while I was there I noticed they had a baby RTB and a colombian. I looked at the little care guide thing they had on the window and it did at least warn that the adult size was 8', but I noticed the print they used to explain that was the smallest thing on the card. -lol- It was in a teeny tank (lizard sized. the "common house gecko" had a bigger tank than the RTB.) I felt bad for it.

    ...enough rambling. Sorry.

All the time. Birds like car rides and his wings are clipped. I've had him ever since he was very young. He's a trained parrot.

Would you rather I took my BP to the petstore?

Re: When did Petsmart start selling snakes?

They've always sold snakes here in Kansas. As far as feeder mice. They basically just raised the price on feeder mice to discourage people from buying them as feeders and only as pets.

Hey, we've been over this already they don't do that on purpose the crickets sneak out from other enclosures :/
    Crickets over run the store.

The new mice they're carrying at my local petsmart are a ****ing rip off.
