    RI? (video inside)

Well, I guess today won't have a happy ending. Does this look like the beginnings of an RI?
Please watch this whole vid. You will see, about half way through. What the heck is she doing with her mouth?

    Re: RI? (video inside)

I haven't ever delt with an RI, but it looks to me like she is just re-adjusting her jaw. You know how they yawn after they eat to fix how their jaws sit? It seems like she is just doing that, only not completely yawning. My girl has done that before, just shifted the bottom jaw around, untile she is comfortable again.I don't see a need to worry, but like I said, I hadn't ever had to deal with an RI, so I wouldn't know much about it.

If there's suspicion of an RI, you need to take her to a QUALIFIED herp vet and have her examined.

Ive seen Ris and thats no RI, but im no vet. Looks like hes having trouble fixing his jaw. There could be something stuck somewhere. What do you use for substrate?

i agree with the fixing jaw. but you might want to take her to a vet to get her checked out anyway. if you really wanna be sure its not RI

    Re: RI? (video inside)

Weena, to be bluntly honest here....no video online is a diagnostic tool and shouldn't be used as such. If you have any worry about your snakes health then only a qualified herp vet, doing a hand's on exam, can do that for you. Please note none of the bigger breeders that are members here have posted in this thread because, I suspect, they would not offer what is a medical opinion that is properly done by your snake's vet...they know better than to "guess online".

If you are concerned enough to post this video, than you should likely at least phone your vet for proper and qualified advise.

Moe, sorry but how in holy blazes can you definitely state "thats no RI". You can take a swab and analyze it from a video? You can clearly say there's no underlying physical reason for the jaw movements? You've got some sort of online vet certification? You cannot say it isn't an RI anymore than someone else can say it is an RI. The most anyone can or should do is advise an owner concerned about a living animal's health, especially when it comes to serious issues like RI's, is to seek proper vet care. Anything more than that, done online, is in my opinion, highly risky and highly improper!

    Re: RI? (video inside)

Yep Liam when it means the health of a living thing I have very strong opinions about "online vetting". We see a lot of that here and on other forums. Folks that don't want to pay for vet visits so ask us to diagnose (not saying that's the situation here), folks making off the cuff medical "decisions" and stating it's definitively this or that. It's one thing to say "hey that looks like a bit of stuck shed and here's what works for me". It's quite another to state "that's no RI". If it is an RI (and I've no clue whether it is or isn't and wouldn't venture a guess) and goes untreated because of Moe's comments then that snake can lose it's life or end up with permenantly scarred lungs.

We can offer a lot of help here at BPNet but we can't, and shouldn't replace anyone's vet...at least not in my not always humble opinion.

It is not just your opinion

In this day in age...someone would pry be liable for their diagnosis as well.
