Setup sizing problem
Ok, I decided to finally get working on getting a Sand Boa.
I'm going with a 20 gallon long right of the bat so I dont have to worry bout upgrading later.
The dimensions are 30 x 12 x 12.
At first I was having a problem deciding where to put it in my little apartment but then the spot selected was so easy and I kicked myself for not thinking of it sooner.
I wanted to put it right under my bp.

It could easily fit inside those bars but my only problem is the height.
A heating light fixture will be a really tight squeeze.
I got 18 exact inches from the base board to the roof of the wood fixture. The tank is 12 inches high so that leaves 6 inches for a lamp.
Extremely tight with hopes that the lamp will push down on the screen lid and that the lamp cord will push down as well.
Questions.
Any suggestions?
And are there any heat lamps that are smaller in height?
Thanks.

Re: Setup sizing problem
Can't see how you can do it with that small space and wanting to use lamps. Why not just either go to some yard sales or hit any large department store and check out free standing shelving units/open concept bookcases. They can generally be found for about $20.00 in stores, much cheaper at garage sales. You'll get the height and flexibility you need using that vertical space and have about the same footprint as what you are currently using.

Re: Setup sizing problem
My suggestion would be two heat mats on two tstats!!! Because belly heat is all they need.

Franky, you got a pic?
I built that stand myself too. lol
First thing I ever built.
I'm gonna shop around. I think I could def find something with a bit of patience.
Worst comes to worse. I wont get it. BP's and cats are cool enough.

Re: Setup sizing problem
We've got our KSB in a 10G (he's about 1 year old and about 13" long). UTH on one side w/thermostat & a 15W bulb for the visual effect only. We may move him to a 20G when he gets a little bigger.
Home Depot sells a small dome that is about 5-3/4" in diameter and possibly less than 6" high.
1.1 Ball Pythons, 0.1 Columbian Boa, 1.0 Suriname Boa, 0.0.1 Corn
1.1.1 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu, 1.2.1 Cuban Rock Iguanas, 1.1 Bearded Dragons, 0.1 Veiled Chameleon

Re: Setup sizing problem
I'd go with an UTH or flexwatt, and attach an under cabinet fluorescent light or 2 to the bottom of the top shelf just to light the display. I use to have a couple of 10 gal aquariums on a similar shelf, so that is what I did.
