Digital Thermometer
I just got my digital thermometer and I wanted to know if I should place the sensors in his main hide? I have an analog thermo and hygrometer for the whole tank, but I was told to get another to monitor him so if I put it in his hide where should the sensors go?
I have this http://www.zilla-rules.com/products/...hermometer.htm
Here is my tank*

* My tank has greenery now look a bit different but same layout.
The main hide he goes in is the cave looking one.

Re: Digital Thermometer
What I would recommend is putting the probe underneath the substrate underneath your snake's hide on the hot side just make sure that you secure it some way so that the snake doesn't move it around. I'm not sure if the other probe is for temperature or humidity, but you want to measure the ambient temp on the cool side to make sure it doesn't dip below 80 degrees. I am also going to put a plug in for identical exo-terra hides. The log hides seem lack the secure feeling that balls like so much. You don't want to make them choose between temps and security. Just some food for thought. Hope that helps with the probe placement. Maybe someone who uses that type of thermometer can give more input. I just use Accurites.

One sensor is for humidty and the other is temperature. I agree with the log thing looks out of place to me any how. Maybe if I cover it with plants it might change a little..i will see if another one of those caves will fit on the ther other side. The other meters that I have take the ambient temperature of the entire enclosure and have been pretty accurate (comparing to the digital).

covering three sides of the tank with newspaper (or a pretty background) wouldn't hurt either. It'll make your snake feel more secure also.

Re: Digital Thermometer
I see you have that exo-terra waterfall thingy, just wondering what the snakes take on that is? Does it ever try to drink from it? Does it get stressed by the noise it makes? Seems like a pretty cool addition to a bp tank.

Re: Digital Thermometer
We have one of the waterfalls in our tank as well. If you have the pieces fitted together properly it makes no noise at all. Our little guy will climb on it every so often and has used it to get up high and explore the top of the tank (probably looking for a way out). He also curled up behind it against the glass but we have since moved it out a bit and it is no longer secure enough for his liking.

He seems to like it...he has drank out of it..basked in it..climbed on it..hunts around it.. :cens0r: in it...but all in all it looks nice makes no noise as long as water is at right level and helps with humidity
all in all it is worth it...but not the small only the medium and large.

Re: Digital Thermometer
This may have been covered by someone else, but those waterfalls can be very dangerous. In some situations, BPs have gotten caught in them and... yeah.... not a happy ending. I would recommend buying just a plain old water bowl.
