Unhappy I lost a dear friend tonight.

    I lost a pet today....

My Russian Dwarf Hamster name "Little Foot".... we have had him for three years, he was a birthday gift to my wife. I had noticed that he was having trouble walking and getting around. The vet said they normally don't live past 1 to 1.5 years old and that we must have done a great job if he has lived this long . Well 1 week later hes gone died in his bed curled up in his little fluffy nest he had made..

I'm 26 and the sight of that little guy all curled up and gone really got to me...This Sucks..

Poor little man! Sounds like he had a great, long life though! Three years for a hamster is ALOT, so you need to congratulate yourself for keeping him for so long.

*big hugs* They sure can wiggle their way into your heart very quickly...

Sounds like your little friend lived in Hamster Heaven his whole life. Not that that makes the loss any easier. So sorry, hon.

Re: I lost a dear friend tonight.

    Ed,

There will come a point where the knowledge that you gave Little Foot the best life possible is a blessing & reassurance to you. In the interim, mourn his passing & the loss that you're feeling. Memorize & embrace the fond memories you have of him, as well as the sadness you experience in Little Foot's absence. That melancholy twinge you feel is also a gauge of the value you put on other living creatures, regardless of how big or small, expensive or modest. When we don't ache for their loss or passing, it's time to worry about our own priorities. Your sentiments only reaffirm what so many of us already know (and greatly appreciate!!!) about you!

    Godspeed, Little Foot.

Re: I lost a dear friend tonight.

Ed, I'll just add my thoughts to those already expressed to you. It's never easy to lose a pet and it's always far too soon to say goodbye. You gave the little fellow a wonderful long life for a hamster and it sounds like he died quietly and peacefully, comfortable and safe in his wee bed. There's not a better ending for man nor beast than to die surrounded by loving folks, having lived a long happy life....we should all have it as well as your small friend did.
