    RIP Uncle Kracker

Some of you may remember that we picked up two male cresties in Daytona last year, adults with dropped tails.

Poindexter died within a few short months, Uncle Kracker passed quietly Tuesday night.

Neither one of them gave us the crestie experience that we were hoping for - both were quite frankly - boring - never moved during the day, and when we'd get up in the morning - in the exact same spot.

This just goes to show - get your animals from someone reputable and that you can trust.

We have a lovely baby crestie that's a doll from Adam's better half - Kelly. This one actually eats CGD!!!! Both Poindexter and Uncle Kracker refused to eat it, and would only eat straight baby food, and it had to be apple. And don't even think about adding vitamin supplements to it, they'd refuse it then - no interest in mealies or small crickets.

RIP Uncle Kracker - I hope that you enjoyed your short stay with us!

Awww... Sorry to hear about your Uncle Kraker
I agree with getting your animals from someone you know. I have bought both of my cresties from members of this site...Emily and Christie...and they are both happy, eating, climbing, goofy animals LOL

    Re: RIP Uncle Kracker

aaw, robin i'm sorry to hear about uncle kracker. i've heard about some other people losing cresteds they got at daytona this past year and i can't help but wonder if they came from the same breeder you got your two from. it's just all so sketchy, seeing as how cresteds are such hardy, generally healthy geckos. i'm glad you were able to give your two a good life while they were with you.

i hope this hasn't discouraged you from cresteds as this experience is far from that of the normal crested experience. it sounds like your little one from kelly is doing great, and much more in line with what a crested should be! (got any new photos of her? )

If it wasn't for "Scarface" (as Karl has named her - because of her shed on her head when she arrived), I would have been very discouraged from cresteds - as you mentioned to me privately, neither of the two that we had looked fat and plump like the ones I see here, and I could never get them to eat right.

Little Scarface isn't plump, but she's still so tiny (but not skinny) that she still fits on my thumb quite comfortably. I'll have to get some new pictures of her! We still have her set up in a 15 quart tub right now.

Honestly - before Scarface, I didn't really understand all the excitement around cresties with our experience with the previous two.

Scarface has been kept in an entirely different room from the orignal two, and we plan to keep it that way until we can completely disinfect that enclosure and replace all the foilage with new. She's actually too tiny for a 20 gallon tall right now, I think.

Now my LEO on the other hand - she's been a LOT of fun!

Yeah, I remember that. At first I thought it was going to be about the musician, until I saw which folder it was in!

    Re: RIP Uncle Kracker

scarface is still young, so it is normal for her to be more thin, rather than fat and plump looking. a 15 quart tub is more than sufficient for a crested of her size--she can stay in that size tub until near adulthood.

if you notice any weightloss or lethargy in scarface she should be tested for entamoeba invadins asap. while very dangerous and often fatal to cresteds it is very easily treated if caught in time.

Awww Robin I'm sorry about Kracker. I know he just never really thrived and I believe neither of those cresties was in the best of shape right from the get go. I'm glad little Scarface is doing much better though!
