    Couple mice..

Well, I am now the proud owner of two mice. Mark bought them for the snakes b/c my rattie breeding operation is off-kilter and I needed feeders; I was hating the idea of feeding mice, but they Had to eat.. well, no dice for Mister Pastel and Spider.. (luckily my rats are almost up to size for those guys..)
So I plan on keeping the mice around and breeding some for my friend; she will give me $1 for each pinky. Not much, but hey, if I get $10 out of it, they more than pay for themselves as they eat little, like, well, mice.

    Re: Couple mice..

i have 2 female mice. they are leftover from feeding my spider and then scenting rats for my her because she only wanted mice when i got her. it was quite successful, and now i have pet mice. and i have to admit, they are kinda cute. i tried to give them away and that fell through so i said what the heck, i'll just keep them. they recently were upgraded to a wire cage with a wheel and other fun goodies. if only i had the energy that those two have--that wheel NEVER STOPS!

They don't smell as bad as I remember mice smelling in the past.. I have them in what I call a "lighter" setup where I use a bit less substrate as normal and clean it out every 1-2 days as opposed to the rats that only need cleaning every 6 days or so.
I do not know where they get all of that energy! lol.

a dollar a pinky is pretty good for you.....They are usually a lot cheaper than that! BUt then, your friend will no doubt be getting good healthy feeders so right on!!!!

I wish I had someone that would buy my rodents. I put an ad up online and I got someone biting but I don't know if they are going to email me back. PLus, I just do it as a hobby, although I would like to expand.

It is tough to find a rodent buyer; most stores stick to their huge mega-suppliers who probably practically give their feeders away; but my friend is in more of a positing where she needs some, as she has a lot of critters herself at the store that eat them.

    Re: Couple mice..

I was thinking maybe later down the road breeding regular rats (I breed african soft furred right now) and seeing if I could see the cute ones to pet stores. I don't know. One thing at a time I guess. Breeding is just plain fun.

It is; I love seeing a new litter of ratties.. but even better is when they get their fur in and you can see better how they're colored/marked!

    Are you serious?

Gerbils don't urinate and their poop is dry like well, Gerbil poop - I only have to clean the cages every 3weeks (refreshing every 4days) and there is NO smell at all.
They are desert animals - they don't waste water...
