Hi and welcome... you will find great advise/support here for your new BP!
First, I would read the over-all the care sheet....
http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=59
Then you can search "soaking" for some great threads to read....
Mine will lay in/out of their water thats in their tubs....
As for soaking, I really only soak if I catch one about to shed, in warm water.. NOT HOT ... or if one retains a piece of shed... again, read the threads available! Good stuff!!!
hope this helps!
Grey Scale is a good thing...

Balls don't need to soak, although you may want to occasionally if they have a stuck shed or if they like to wallow around in their poo.
To soak them, place them in a tub filled about 1/2-3/4 up their sides with lukewarm water. If the water feels warm to you, it's probably too warm for your snake. Also, make sure you place the tub in their cage as the water can cool down quickly.
Here's a recent post with pics on soaking a Ball for stuck sheds.

If the humidity in the enclosure is between 50 and 60% soaking is usually not required.
