Getting a Length of Zim
I've been wanting to find out Zim's weight and length. I have a gram scale, but I haven't gotten batteries for it yet. Until then, how can I determine his length. I know he won't sit still for something like that. I have two of his shed skins in ziplocks. Don't know why I keep them. Just something cool to look at I guess. One skin is from 12/17/06, and the other is from 2/1/07. Any way of using the latest skin to measure how long he is?

nope. Either use a piece of string and run down his back or download snakemeasurer and take a good pic from above.

Re: Getting a Length of Zim
If you are going to use the Snake Measurer program I'd actually recommend taking three shots then averaging out the length. Even a small difference in angle can affect the length you end up getting. The good old tried and true method of running a string along his spine from nose tip to tail tip is always the best as far as I'm concerned. You can't use the sheds as they stretch as they come off the snake and will give you a longer length than the snake really is.

I'll attempt the string method. Only problem is Zim never stays still. He's constantly moving when I have him out of his tank.

Let him crawl along a wall he will straiten out pretty well if you do that. Just lay a tape along the wall first it isn't perfect but you will get a pretty good estimate that way and it won't stress your snake. Something about a wall ledge just makes em streatch out.

I find the string method good for boids but since most colubrids including corns are wiggly worms, I'd go with the measuring program and like Jo said, take a few shots and average the length

Too many boas to list and a few balls as well

Re: Getting a Length of Zim
Well I got him alongside his tank, against the wall, and guesstimated, using a measuring tape, and came to 2 feet, give or take an inch. I also got his weight. 50g. Sound about right for a corn snake?

Well since i never weigh my corns i am unable to help you on this one .I just go by looking at them to tell if they are healthy and growing properly.
