    New / First BP

Just picked it up from the pet store about 20 minutes ago.

Right now the log and the fake plants appear to be a hit

Hasn't stopped moving yet. Seems pretty happy, didn't try to bite or shy away at all. PIcked it up a few times at the pet store

    Welcome to BP.net!

VERY pretty snake you have there...and a lovely enclosure!

A bit of advice....if I may... Be sure to give it a week or so to settle in and get used to its new home...before you start handling it. The best thing to do is to make sure it takes a meal or two before you begin regular handling. A ball python that's eating regularly is usually feeling pretty secure.

The constant activity you're seeing now will not be the "norm." Right now, he's exploring and trying to make sure this new environment is really "all his." Once he's sure no other critters are going to lay claim to any of the space or the perfect little caves....he'll settle down and spend 95% of the day (or more! LOL) sound asleep.

Thanks. The temps are good, they aren't right in that pic because I had the light off while I was at the store. I just turned it on in that pic.

BTW, how long should I wait before I give it a meal?

A general rule of thumb is to give your snake a full week to settle in before introducing prey into its enclosure. Sometimes people have success feeding right away...but the most sure way to not stress out a shy ball python is to let it get plenty settled first.

I agree with Judy...patience is the key with Ball Pythons. Just keep in mind you will never out wait them.
