MEAN Red Tail Boa
i bought a 5 month old rtb yesterday at a snake show.and i could see that he had a mean attiude and was striking at all the people that walked by his cage. But i bought him becouse his nice colers.the breeder i bought him from said he was like that becous all the people around him but when i picked him up this mornig he was calm for about 1 minute and then he started hissing and striking at any thing that moves.
So do you guys think i should leave him alone for the rest of the week or should i handle him for a little bit at a time so he can gain trust in me?
Also when should i feed him?

If he is that nippy, I would give him 1 week before feeding(at 5 months old, a decent size mouse should be ok, remeber same as his girth) and wait 2 weeks before handling at all. Start with 10-15 minutes 3-4 times a week if you can and sooner or later he will realize you are not a threat. Make sure his temps are ok and everything. Give him a couple hides.
The no handling for a couple weeks could make the difference between a easy and hard transition.
Best of luck

Too many boas to list and a few balls as well

i have 2 hides and the temps on the hot side are 80 air temp and 90 substrate temp. Also he is about maybe 2ft long and he is in a 10gall cage is this okay.

How do you read the temps and humidity? You should use digital thermometer/hygrometer. A two foot boa should not be in a 10 gallon tank. You should read through the caging forums and sticky threads on how to make your own tub. Good luck with the rascal.

You also have to remember if he was at a show he was probably stressed out of his mind. I mean how would you be if you were in a plastic container? ... Just give him some time. He's still young.

Re: MEAN Red Tail Boa
is it bad that he is extending his nesk to the top of the cage.

Re: MEAN Red Tail Boa
You mean just looking around? If that's the case no. He's just looking around and exploring his cage.
