heating!

im leaving for the pet store soon, and i need to know what kind of light bulb to get (fairly young BP, 10 gal tank) the one i have i think is too powerful (75 watt white direct beam bulb) and i want to use it in variation with a heating pad, so someone please recommend me a bulb and heating pad

10 gal tank your not going to need much. just get a UTH and tstat. that should keep your heats good. your prob going to get too hot with a bulb

First off, I'm a little disappointed that you didn't get a proper setup BEFORE you got your snake.

With that said, nobody here can recommend a specific bulb for your snake. There are a lot of variables including the type of cage, the temperature of your room, etc.

The snakes cage should have a temperature gradient from the low 80s to the low 90s. An UTH can accomplish this by itself if your room temps are comfortable and you use a decent thermostat. If your room temps are cool, you can suplement the heat using a low watt bulb along with the UTH and thermostat.

Most UTHs will work just fine, but you should spend a little extra on the thermostat. Some decent ones to consider are Johonson, Ranco, Helix and Herpstat.

If this is your situation: I used a 50W infrared bulb with a heating pad in my 10 gallon. That was you can keep it on 24/7 and preserve the snake's photoperiod.

In case you haven't bought one already. There are guidelines on the packaging as well, to help you choose (based on distance or volume, something like that).

wont this push the temps too high,i have my hot end set at 92 when i put daylight basking bulb in it sends temp over 100!!!

If you must use a light to supplement the heat...get a dimmer switch from the hardware store. They make them for table lamps that you just plug into like an extension cord. You'll still have to pay close attention to the temps in your cage and tweak the dimmer switch as needed...but at least you can be reasonably sure it won't spike the temps that high when you're not looking.
