Follow up question about cage warming

This pertains to the same thing as my last post. However I wanted to put it in a new one to possibly get more and faster replies. I have succeeded in warming the air temperature of my cage up to the temperatures recomended. However, if I put the thermometer flat on the bottom of the cage. it registers pretty high. How hot can the bottom of the cage be without being harmful to King Julian?

the bottom of your enclosure should read 90-92 on the warm side and 80-82 on the cool side... at the bottom

That is what the temperature is when the thermometer is standing up. This reading is about half an inch above the bottom of the cage. The actual bottom surface of the cage is a little big warmer. It is not above 95. Is this ok? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to make KJ as comfortable as possible.

Do you have the heat source controlled by a thermostate? What is your heat source by the way? If it does not get any higher then 95 its not to high as the 92-94 range is concerned and some thermomaters vary -1 or +1.Your snake will move when he is warm enough.

My heat source is an under tank heater. I also have a red heat lamp that I could turn on if needed. As of now I do not have a thermostat but I will be getting one today while I am out at the vet. The good news is that KJ seems a lot healthier today. More active and no clicking when he breathes. I will definitely still be visiting the vet today though.

Ok can i ask what brand your UTH is? I am not a salesman of another brand just wondering as some UTH are junk AKA zoo-med UTH lol.The light if you get your temps set at the correct levels you will be better off without that light as they tend to "dry" out the air.This of course kills your humidity level.Let us know how thing go at the vet .Just incase leave anything made by zoo-med at the pet store lol.

Well ok that might explain a few things. I have a zoo-med UTH. May I ask what brands are recommended? I've heard of some people using heating pads that are for people. Is this a good idea?

I also have some good news. I took King Julian to the vet today. I talked to a few other snake owners and they recommended a good reptile vet. He took a look at KJ and said that he had a very slight RI but that with a shot he should be fine. He appears to be doing much better today anyways. There was hardly any clicking and he even ate a small mouse so he must not have been feeling too bad or been too stressed. Overall, it looks like he is going to be fine!

Swmrguy11- Definitely do NOT use a human heating pad. They are not meant to be on 24 hours a day and can develop very dangerous "hot spots" which could burn your snake if left as an under tank heater!

What is good? I've never heard anything on here about "good" or "bad" for UTHs that you could pick up at the pet store. I've stuck with the Exo-Terra brand... but I did buy a Zoo-Med rheostat at one point... my UTH wouldn't even PLUG INTO IT! What a ripoff that was but now I have an ESU Reptile thermostat. Are the products I have now good quality?
