    Rack/Accurite probe

I have a question I wanted to throw out and see what others have experienced.
    I have a rack w/ 1960 tubs, 4 high, 2-rows 4" flex on each rack shelf.
I have a Helix1000 w/ probe taped on the flex like Jeff from Boaphile told me to do. It's taped on the bottom shelf flex right in the bend where it comes down the wall to go across the bottom. Have the Helix set on 94.
According to the Helix temps stay a steady 94.

So I have accurites set up in the tubs w/ the units at the front of tubs/cool side and the probe under about 4 single sheets of newspaper over on the hot side right over the flex in the tub stuck to the bottom of the tub.

Prior to moving the probe I had the setup w/ the probe of the accurite on top of the newspaper under the warm side hide. When like this hot side temps stayed between 91.8-93.4 depending on which tub ( top being 91 bottom being 93-94 ) Stayed this way for about 4 weeks.

So not wanting the animal to come in direct contact w/ the probe or move it ( not that it matter because it was the accurite not the helix probe ) I placed it under the newspaper center of the tub over the tape.

Now my temps on the hot side on the accurite read between 97-99. This is with 4 sheets of newspaper over it and the hide.

When I check temps w/ my temp gun on top of the newspaper The surface temps are still 91.8-93.4 and even if I pick up the newspaper and put the temp gun right on the bottom of the tub it still is no way 97-99 degrees.
I have 3 accurites in three tubs and it is the same on all.

Could the combo of the newspaper and hide over it be causing it to hold heat and give me the higher reading?
    Anyone else experience this?

I have checked temps w/ my gun several times a day for the last couple days and all remains well. I noticed the accurite temps where about 5 degrees higher than the actual temps on top of the paper where the snake come in contact ie 98.5 at probe stuck to bottom of tub and covered w/ paper = 93.5 on top of paper where snake is.

    Re: Rack/Accurite probe

Depending on what you use for a hide, it may hold in a great deal of heat inside.
    lots of snakes

I use the black plastic bowls like the take-out uses for food and Gladware bakeware which also is black and plastic and made to hold hot foods.
