PVC racks, building or other options?

I know a lot of places sell PVC racks, and they are usually lightweight and smaller, but you can stack them, etc into a larger unit.

    My questions

    1) Has anyone built one out of a sheet of pvc
    2) Has anyone tried to build one out of similar or other materials (plexiglass/acrylia or anything else?)
    3) any other lightweight/module type ideas for racks?

Not that i have extra time or anything but Ive been kicking the idea around after moving a lot of heavy melamine racks around

Re: PVC racks, building or other options?

I just got my rack from herpenclosures about a month ago. going to get another on in a couple weeks probably. they stack no problem and are strong. i have never thought of building one as i wouldnt know where to get a sheet of pcv. might have to check out home depot or lowes and see how much a sheet is and try to copy the one i have depending on the price of the pvc.

PVC on sale lots of places online, and some plastic locally depending, I havnt found a retail loc like HD or Menards yet.

Online Ive seen prices from 70-90 for 1/8th inch. Dark gray usually the cheapest.

1/8" isn't going to be sturdy. look at 3/8 to 1/2" minimum. unless you already have the tools and bits to make the rack it might be cost effective just to buy it.

    1/2" pvc?

Yeah I was trying to compare cost effectiveness to see if it even came close.
